This is something that has had me stumped ever since I’ve owned my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer, it always filled perfectly fine on hot and medium/warm water temperatures but is slower than molasses to fill on the cold temperature despite me having good water pressure. Water trickles into the tub on cold but if I put it on warm and turn the hot water off at the faucet on the wall, the incoming cold water flows like it’s supposed to but when on cold it just trickles into the tub. Anyone else have a Whirlpool washer with the Three Solenoid Non Thermostatic that does this or not?

It sounds like the valve is not working properly.
Slow Cold Fill
Have you replaced the cold Water Valve Diaphragm ?, and while you are doing so you really should replace all 3 on a water valve this old, poor water flow is the number one thing that happens when the WVD is shot.

Might be and I’ll have to look into it. The cold oddly enough has 2 valves so I might just disable the 3rd valve to see if that does anything and if it fills up like it’s supposed to I’ll just live with hot, warm , and cold water temperatures and medium is essentially a warm water temperature.

Hi John, I replaced the hot and cold water diaphragms last year around this time and I’ll replace the 3rd to see if that does anything. Hopefully by rebuilding the 3rd valve will make it function like it’s supposed to.

The valve assembly design has a separate flow path for the 3rd solenoid mixing the incoming hot and cold together for warm. That cold flow is not via the cold solenoid.
Hot temp = hot solenoid
Warm temp = warm solenoid
Medium temp = hot solenoid + warm solenoid
Cold temp = cold solenoid
When you set it to Medium or Warm and turn off the hot faucet, the cold flow is through the 3rd warm solenoid, not the cold solenoid.
Update
I rebuilt the 3rd valve and now everything works like it’s supposed to. I however will still continue to use the hot, medium, and warm cycles since I don’t want gook to build up in my machine like it does in machines owned by cold water users. Will only use the cold cycle for darks or colors that will fade/bleed easily.
