Question For UK Appliance Engineers - Zanussi washer ZWF14070W1

Hi Guys

My parents Zanussi washer has either a broken element or the pcb has gone.

Firstly its definately not heating. Its starts a wash programme and runs for 20 minutes then goes onto the rinses.

Saying that though it went through 1 whole wash programme without heating but continued without stopping after the 20 minutes and continuing as normal.

Do you reckon it's just the element or has the PCB gone wonky?

Any help would be appreciated. My parents don't want to buy an element if it's the PCB that's gone.

sounds like it could be the PCB or both.

On some Zanussi's (and probably other makes), a fault with one component can cause the PCB to also fail. In this instance that could've happened.

However, if the machine behaves normally apart from ending the wash after 20mins, then it might not be the PCB at all, as PCB faults seem to be abit more erratic than that.

If you get no joy on here, it might be worth getting a local engineer to look at the machine. Some do fixed price call-outs that include the cost of repair so you know what sorta figure you'll be paying before any work starts.

Ok here goes nothing....

The firs thing I would try is the thermostat to me it sounds like its got stuck and is telling the PCB its up to temperature hence its just moving on and not stopping.

Worth a shot as its the cheapest part to replace.

Test to see if there is continuity through it as it should not have any till it gets warm This is my opinion and I could be way off whack but what have you to lose?

My mum has decided to get a new machine instead and has chosen one. Myself and my dad have had instructions to go down to Comet tomorrow and bring it home and install it.

She has gone for another Zanussi but the oddball Zanussi which is not Zanussi but Chinese I believe?

She has chosen this because she likes the reviews of the machine by other people which have purchased it. I didn't really get much input as it's the machine she liked and that was the one she was getting..lol.

Could be worse......

I might've had a whirl at repairing, but it is a gamble on newer machines & without knowing any local engineers in Luton, you could've wasted £100 and still had a broken machine.

Some people are abit wary of the chosen replacement machine because of it not being a genuine Zanussi. However, as you say, reports from owners for this machine are very positive & i remember people on here who saw them in the shops commenting that they felt more solid than genuine Zanussi machines.

End of the day if it does more than two years service then it's presumbably bettered the ZWF14070W1? I'm pretty sure it was only 2 years ago that Zanussi added the W1 to the end of the model numbers on their machines?

Hi Liam

Well my dad went down to comet today to get the machine as my mum couldn't wait and I was about to go to work. When he arrived the price had gone up over night from £249 to £349. Mum couldn't afford above £250 so she couldn't buy it in the end.

So she looked again and decided on a 7kg 1200rpm Indesit as it was on offer from £349 down to £220 which is a good deal.

Have plumbed it in and it's done it's first empty wash to clean out factory residue and I must admit I quite like it. It looks better in person than a photo. I thought Indesits did only 2 rinses but it did 3 (i think). Will see what happens tomorrow as mum and myself have stacks of laundry to get through.

The Zanussi was either 2 or 3 years old so your right in your estimation.

Could be a blessing in disguise that Mark.

I'm more than happy with the Indesit I had which is now with my mother and my Hotpoint Aqualtis. The wash rhythms are good and the rinse water is generous. I think you'll like it!

I wouldn't have bought that particular model from Zanussi - it has really bad build quality as it is made by Midea. I think the Indesit is better quality.

You've probably got a decent deal on the Indesit. I'm not a huge fan, but with the appliance market changing as much as it has recently, some Indesits do now appear to be out-living Zanussi's. I wouldn't touch a Hotpoint because the quality seems little better than the cheaper Indesits, but Indesit seem ok for the price.
