Does anyone know if Electrolux dryers still make that whistling sound? Years ago we had an Electrolux set and our dryer could be heard along our block. My brother had a Frigidaire set and his dryer also whistled noticeably.
It seems to me that the exhaust systems on most dryers produced in the past 45 years or so have unfortunately made some level of whistling sound during operation. The last perfectly quiet dryer we owned was a ~1975 DG 806 Maytag. It purred like a kitten.
If the whistling sound you're noticing is different from what's normal, I would wager that it's still exhaust related, or perhaps associated with the drum.
The whistling sound more than likely is coming from the tiny, tiny opening behind the blower wheel for the shaft it’s connected to (true for all dryers really) along with the various seams and crevices they are big enough to let air through. Any back pressure in the ductwork will probably make the whistling a bit louder.
Reply #1, about the only thing you can hear on my Maytag DG407 is the burner snapping open and closing along with the faint sound of items tumbling around. Definitely one of the quietest dryers I’ve owned so far. Can’t wait to see how my custom Maytag dryer does once the new set of belts arrives for it along with getting a few other issues sorted out with it.
