Quick Sunday wash in a Frigidiare

Hey Gang ~

After going a month without a camera - yesterday I picked up a new Cannon since being redeemed of the interest free loan I lent to the government. For the last 3 or 4 weeks I've been bring my Sunday laundry over to the house to run a few loads through the Unimatic while working on the house. Nothing is like setting PVC joints with the smell of drying sheets in the back ground.

The machine is a WO-65 with some misfit parts. It has the WO-65-2 lid switch, a pulsator column from a '55 Unimatic, and is also missing the lint chaser ring - but that just adds to the fun. The machine has been in Iowa for almost a year now and after a recent trip to the doctor in Omaha over New Years, sees a weekly rotation of sheets and other whites for a nice wash.

Please enjoy the film - and don't mind me while I'm loading the machine. The money I spent on the camera took up the funds for the professional model I had hired. Instead I sent her to Greg's since he is needing a feminine touch on his KDS-18 ;-)

Perfect rollover! I think it works just fine without the Lint Chaser ring, maybe better because you get the sound drama of the 55 column without all those grandiose sudscakes!

I don't get it!

Every time I see a video of one of these machines I am really impressed by the rollover. It seems to me these machines would wash really well. What happened? Why did this design go away? Is it just because the majority of washers had the traditional style agitator and these were just too different? Did Frigidaire have a patent on this design preventing other manufacturers from copying it?

Hey Mike -

Yes, that is a F & P hiding back there. Needs a new main bearing/seal assembly as she howls as loud as she barks!

One of these days when the house is done and the basement is completed - I'll do a complete video and update the collection page.

I love Frigidaires!

When I have the space and the money, a Unimatic is high on my list. If ever Robert wants to part with his turquoise WCI-58, put me on the list! I just love how effective the Frigidaire's are, especially the Unimatics. Thanks for posting, Ben. It really brightened up my day.

Maytag A-700

Hey ben i saw you have a Maytag A-700 to the left of the frigidaire .I picked up the exact machine this past weekend and found that cold rinse dial on top of the panel console i thought that it was an add on item at first as i have several 700`s without that dial but i guess it`s original do you know what year they had that ?? Just curious John

Hey John -

Of all the 700's I've seen - they've all had the rinse temp switch on top of the panel. Although all the 700's I've seen were made in 62 or later. Maybe some of the early 700's in 1961 did not have the switch - those that were mostly re-badged 142's? More on the machine pictured later - it is a 'franken-project' ;-)

Thanks again everyone - these washers are by far one of the cornerstone machines of the group. Even if you don't own one, they sure are great to enjoy during a wash-in.

Thanks for the video, Ben, that's the exact washer of my childhood, the fabulous double rinser.
Have often wondered why they paused after the spins and waited before filling. Any ideas? Later Unimatics flew right into the fill from the spin making quite a hurricane of water.

Always appreciate how you can really stuff that tiny tub with such amazing results. Try that with a Bendix ;'D
