I like

Queen Dana Owen Latifa, and Jill Scott, and what Ed Robertson does, particularly"Chickety China, the Chinese Chicken, you have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin".....

But the rest of it is really not for me. I do wish that more of rap was more hope-full, but......

As for the sociological aspects of marginalised groups, I think that might be better left for another day.

I can't stand any of it, never could.

I miss the days when music was actually played by musicians. I don't buy the line that Rap is actually music. I can turn on my drum machine and make rhymes, doesn't make me a songwriter. Starting in the 90s, it is irrefutable that no period in history has so little talent made more money for doing so little.

Putting together orchestrations, coming up with new melodies, coming up with great lyrics, is HARD. That's why a great song is a jewel.

Mark my words, history will show, and many of us will be around to see it. The 90s, and so far the 2000s, will go down in history as the worst two decades for music since music was published.

Thirty, forty, fifty years from now people will still be listening to Elvis, The Beatles, early Motown, swinging 40s and 50s music, classical, and even heavy metal. Most of the music from the period we are in will be forgotten, and I say, that's a good thing.

The best song I have heard lately is a cover version (female vocalist that I don't even know) of the Beatles' "Across the Universe". Man, do I miss music.

Amen Kevin and Jason!!!

This has definitely been a forgetful two decades of music. It's all about the money, how you look, the videos, etc. and no longer about the music itself. It's true..."MTV killed the radio star". Hopefully, this trend will burn itself out, and we will once again have musicians that are musicians; not thugs, actors, or fashion models.

Well, remember in the early 90s where everyone rebelled against synthesizers and we got acoustic guitars again? That was so awesome to hear acoustic music again. But that faded and gave way to gangsta (c)rap, and extremely angry, hateful rock. That's my problem with today music, so hateful and mean, and so stupid at times.

Yo Nelly, you got lettuce stuck your grill.

A little over 40 years ago...

Take a look at some classic Byrds from '65. Hard to believe this was actually a MUSIC VIDEO compared to the garbage I've seen on MTV.

Personally I think this is what music videos should be like...

Well when it comes to what constitutes cleverly written music you can harken back to the 50' and 60's or earlier but what really sticks in my mind is how in hades did great composers like Mozart, Bach etc compose their music which is hundreds of times more complicated than anything written in the 20th century and all they had was a feather quill and candles.

And now...

The King of Rock And Roll live in Las Vages

Sirius 13, all Elvis, all the time.

I saw a 30 minute program a while back

On the Dave Clark 5. They were great.

There was a music "video" (obviously done for a variety show) where the boys were playing a song and there were different panes of translucent glass behind them. It was in black and white but I am guessing the panes were in different colors. Behind each pane was the sillouette (sp?) of a "go-go" dancer dancing to the music. It was stylized so well and very cool. Kind of like what Austin Powers lampooned in the first movie, but it was neat, not cheesey.
