It can't be just me but this really irritates me to no end but to find the good stuff you have to polite. I'm talking about people who advertise something for sale in the local classified paper here which is free to do btw and then don't describe their item or even have a clue about it when you make the call.
Here's two examples
Hoover vacuum $20. So I call and this foreign sounding womans answers.. I ask her what type of Hoover vacuum is it and she say "it's a Hoover" so I say well what kind of Hoover. She says again,, it's a Hoover, I don't know because I'd have to go look in the shed. By now I'm ready to spit nails and hang up.

Next example: Viking tank vacuum, no power brush, good shape $45 obo..yay I think,, an older viking (Eatons Eureka rebadge canned ham shape vacuum). Older guy answers I ask him if it's an older metal one. He replies,,umm I don't really know, so he goes and asks his wife and comes back and say well it's not ours we're selling it for a friend. So again I say well do you know if it's an older metal tank shaped one or a newer plastic one and again he goes back and asks his wife and comes back and says it's a plastic one, which I decline. Bloody idiot why didn't he put his wife on the phone in the first place. People like this should be euthanized, it's only humane.

now you just simma down

I had to restrain myself from buying a vintage Hoover
"broiler in lid" stainless steel electric frying pan because of you today. Only 5 bucks w/manual. I already bought that damn Conn Organ because of you! And I certainly don't intend to euthanize you, or myself!!!!

The day I almost committed an act of violence!

I hate e-mailing those "estate sale handlers" because they don't know squat about appliances. Like the one who had a very unusual vintage round automatic washer. I asked if it had a brand name. She didn't know what it was, but she urged me to come to the sale and see it. Austin and I had visions of a Bendix Standard. Imagine our disappointment when I drove all the way to Houston (about 60 miles each way) to find a small portable Handy Hot at the incredibly low price of $200.00! FEH!

One of the worst ones is electric organs! For some reason, everyone thinks that a floor standing electric organ is a Hammond despite the fact that it says "Lowery" or "Wurlitzer" "Vox" or any other name across the front. I took a 50 mile trip for an ad in the paper for what I thought was a great price on a Hammond Spinet sized organ. I guess I should have known when the owner couldn't even tell me what model series it was over the phone. Well, when I got there, I found this rickety cabinet that contained a cheap little plastic transistorized Casio thing and a guitar amplifier built together in a wooden case around the two. Not only did it look very "redneck engineered" but it also sounded cheezy and thin, like some kid's freebie toy in a happy meal...definitely a far cry form a real Hammond Organ!

Another organ afficianado? I have to not look otherwise I'll be dragging another one home. Actually I've seen a few show up in the thrift stores lately but nothing I would want. One was a Hammond spinet and I was tempted but there were problems with the pedals, had a "brite foot" feature that wouldn't shut off and the sustains didn't work on the swell, something else too that I've forgotten.
The only a couple of weeks ago there was a very nice condition small Lowery spinet, too small for me and this lady was sitting there, not a clue about it so I went over and played it for her. She told me that she had always always wanted one but couldn't afford it growing up nor did she know diddly about them, just that she had always wanted to learn. So I checked it over for her, everything worked perfectly, told her so and it was a great deal for $60 so she did buy it.

Haven't found any organs around here.I wonder if the connection on the "Hammond"organ-is it becoming a "name" like people call any facial tissue "Kleenex" and any hand held circular saw "Skilsaw"?The only time I saw an organ here was years ago in a "thrift" store and it was selling for $1000.Was a nice instrument-was a commercial-church model.Large for a home.Had a seperate "tone cabinet"It did work and sound fine.Just big and expensive. It was also a tube unit.
