Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Paul,

I think V-M was intentionally copying British design - which was quite good optically, if not necessarily good engineering, towards the end.
I distinctly remember the V-M A/V changers in black with the cue arm being very close to the BSRs of that period.
Which is why I qualified my statement with "if that is the one in the picture."
Gosh, I remember saving my allowance and money from lawn cutting, show snovelling and baby shitting money to buy a Zero 100...

Mulls,

Your console has a replacement turntable, that unit was built with a Studiomatic Changer, with or without strobe. I do believe your unit is the high-end thus would have the lighted strobe speed adjustment feature. What is in your console now is a low-end BSR probably around 1975 or so.

RCA never used BSR in their equipment, and because of poor sales and modular units becoming popular RCA thru in the towel in late 1974 and said no more audio products, later in 1982 Zenith did the same and I believe Magnavox was the last maker of console stereos in 1985.

End of RCA's

"RCA thru in the towel in late 1974 and said no more audio products..."

But their tooling was used for a short-lived brand called Monteverdi. I remember seeing Monteverdi consoles as late as '77. I think Monteverdi was based on discontinued stuff from more than one manufacturer; I seem to recall a Zenith model being re-released as Monteverdi.

The RCA console lady is driving me nuts. It's located in her store, behind a bunch of junk, and marked at - get this - $399.

She can't get it to work, although she says it *did* work at one time (well, duh) so she's willing to let it go for $299.

$299 for essentially a big piece of furniture that may or may not work. Oh, and I have to dig it out of the corner.

We're sort of at an impass right now.

If it isn't a "tube powered" unit

Skip it!!! If it is tped and flawless furniture just rake that hags face off and give the Connie Marvel (or is it
Marble?) job interview talk from "Pink Flamingo" :
"Well Miss Sandy Sandstone , there are two kinds of People
in this world!" etc.

Studiomatic

Drewz, thanks for the great info.I was told the unit was a higher end one.It has a little metal plate on the underside of the lid thas says "Custom Collection".Could you elaborate a little about what makes this a higher end unit?More power, better speakers, etc. Also, please tell a little more about the Studiomatic record changer-was it sourced from someone else?
Tom
