This was probably needed to counteract the heat given off by one of the early tube type color TVs! I wonder if RCA was trying to get into the appliance business and after a few toe-in-the-water attempts like this figured it was easier and better to team with Whirlpool?

Poor little "Nipper" looks a little rigid-too much of that new RCA AC the what looks like a "salesman" who is also patting Nipper. The RCA salesman says--"Let me show you what this baby can do-see how its frozen Nipper here-it will certainly cool you and your RCA TV and Hi-Fi!"

Apparently, RCA owned the Estate appliance company, then joined up with Whirlpool who took Estate with them when RCA divested the non-electronics product lines.

It mustn't have been an amicable divorce because there's no mention of the RCA Whirlpool era at whirlpool.com

Estate Ranges

According to information on the Lane Public Library (Hamilton, OH) website:

1842 - Founded as F. & L. Kahn & Bros. Co.
1885 - Moved to Hamilton, OH
1905 - Incorporated as Estate Stove Co.
1945 - Sold to NOMA Electric Co.
1952 - Sold to RCA
1955 - Merged with Seeger Refrigeration, Whirlpool Corp. and Sears-Roebuck Co.
New firm known as Whirlpool-Seeger Corp.
1961 - Whirlpool ends production at Hamilton plant

NOMA is the same company most widely known for making Christmas lights and decorations, like those seen in the "Donald's Christmas light building" post by Hans.

When I saw the NOMA name I immediately thought about Christmas lights. I thought they were a Japanese of Chinese company.

Lots of adverts from the 50's & 60's depicted people that are well dressed. This makes the reader feel that they want to be in the same situation (and find the same solution to their "problem") as the people depicted.

Concerning this theory, I have a true story for you.

A few years ago there was a local Honda dealer that had television adverts. In their commercials they had the dealerships mascot, a real Great Dane sitting besides the owners of the dealership while they were hawking the virtues of the dealership. The people were(2 women and a man) dressed in formal attire.
I sent an e-mail to the dealership indicating that I was very familiar with Great Danes and that no Great Dane owner I know of would stand next to their dogs while dressed in such a manner. They'd get dog hair all over their clothes!

I never did receive a response from the dealership.

HOWEVER a few months later a new commercial from this dealership appeared. The people were no longer dressed in formal attire. They were now wearing westernware!
(Denims, Cowboy shirt, boots, etc.) And the Great Dane was still there!

Hmmm, did my e-mail have something to do with this? I'll never know.....

Yes, it was David McDavid Honda on the Gulf freeway.

I haven't seen any commercials from them in a few years, but they do have a balloon in the shape of a Great Dane sitting on the roof of their showroom.
