I'm basing the date on the embossed area near the top of the cabinet. This and the lower embossed area of the front panels were changed for the 1961 models. The embossing on the '61 and later models begins about 1/2" down from the top of the front panel. This is a shallow embossing (about 1/4" deep) that is flat. On the 57' through '60 models the embossed area starts about 1" or so down from the top of the panel. It is angled up rather than flat as on earlier models. Compare this picture with that of a later model, and you will notice the difference. I agree with John about this having a plastic control panel, and I haven't seen any with it before the early 60's either.

Wasn't there also a New York state member who had found a similar washer in a musty basement a few years back?

He said he was trying to fix or rebuild it.

This dryer...

...was our first , and I remember being told it was a "used" machine, when it appeared across from mom's Westinghouse Laundromat, after I started first grade, fall of 62. I clearly remember the plastic control dial, which slipped off easily, and had only the red pointer. It had a distinct and very loud rhythmic rumble, so powerful that it rattled the lint trap door. Even placing the box of Cheer on it wouldn't help, as vibration would move it towards the center of the cabinet. Then one day the dryer wouldn't work, and my mom said the belt broke after it was repaired. It was 100% quieter after that. I also hid inside this dryer a couple times. A typical setting instruction from my mom was "40, high",when I was helping on washday. I've seen only this picture of one, and I'd love to figure out which year model it was. I remember some blue on the control panel, and I love the style of these!!
Why exactly was it so noisy??
