Please join in this FLY THE AMERICAN FLAG, on Sept 11th.

We have a little less than one week and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America.

If you forward this email to least 11 people and each of those people do the same...you get the idea.

THE PROGRAM IS THIS:

On Tuesday, September 11th, 2007, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States.

Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this anniversary of our country's worst tragedy.

We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our Country was bathed in American Flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism.

Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity.

Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

Action Plan: So, here's what we need you to do...

Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.

Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11.

Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.

Thank you for your participation.

God Bless You and God Bless America...

Re: I was hoping:

That others would acknowledge reading this about our Reminder of Sept 11 to be sure to put your American Flags out.

I think that this is one of the most important Days to remind us of what happened and that we all do remember. We should all at least once on this Day, say a Prayer for those who had to loose their lives from this tragic, unfortunate thing that happened and all of the Emergency persons that helped, as well as others who helped as best as they were able to help.

Lets see just how many people in the USA and those elsewhere that might have an American Flag on this Club Site are going to put their Flags out besides myself.

Peace, GOD Bless Everyone and GOD Bless America, Steve

Not going to be any different for me! An American flag flies on the outside of my house EVERY day and every night! At night time, I've got 3 little MR16 LED spotlight pointed at it!

Nothing personal Steve, but I think the republicans have the "rights" to all the claims about anything 9/11. I think they own it in fact. And anything they "own" I don't want anything to do with. They have used it so much in fact, that I really don't even want to think about 9/11 anymore. They can have the flag waving and anything else that goes with it. I do not even feel that great about being in the USA these days to be perfectly honest. I will keep my flag in the closet for now.... <:

I don't participate in flag-waving or in circulating spa

The greatest threats to our freedom, and to our way of life came not from terrorists, but from within our country and our government.

It seems to be those who crow most loudly about our American way of life, and those who most conspicuously wave their flags who are doing their best to take away those freedoms and to subvert our Constitution.

No thanks, I'll pass on the Wal-Mart brand patriotism, and instead I'll keep voting, paying taxes, and working for a better tomorrow for all mankind, if only in my own small way.

Many flags are up down here in Katrina Land they are Painted on whats left of many peoples homes. The aggravation of BIG INSURANCE, and Govt. red tape has literally killed (aggravated to death) some Senior Adults. Houses they have lived in for decades, forever gone, and a complex aggravating system to get "the road home money", These golden agers are not leaving their city. Doubt they would be satisfied anywhere else. Last count i heard there are still about 200 unclaimed bodies that have layed in morgues for 2 years. I wish the people in NEW YORK, and Minneapolis (the bridge failure)the best. and yes I will put out our red/white/blue windsock on the front porch.

Re: Thank you:

For those who have Posted, I don't mean to bring on any kind of misunderstandings between us, I just wanted to ask everyone, at least who would like to Fly their American Flag, in memory of our Fallen from this tragedy of "9-11" but I certainly understand and appreciate everyone's comments.

Please forgive me if I have attempted something to upset anyone, or creating wrongful feelings or thoughts, it certainly wasn't my intent at all. I just was sharing what I had sent to me, as an E-Mail and I feel in my opinion of how to Remember.

I wouldn't ever condemn anyone for doing or not doing something that they didn't want to do or did or didn't believe in doing.

I've never been and personally don't want to be a very Political person and I don't much any more watch the News, because I feel that I've got enough Grief and dealings with Depression, that I don't need to add to this in my life.

Peace, Blessings and here's to great Friends here, Steve

Steve, I hear you. I apologize for going off, but it's a touchy subject here.

I'm definitely not in an environment where it's comfortable (or even, in some cases, safe) to speak freely about the way many of us feel about the issue.

On the other hand, the Times actually did an article that more or less asked, how many public displays of grief are enough? I know quite a few first responders whose basic health needs are not being met, and suicides in general are through the roof...

Many of us feel as if, after the attacks, we were all united...many of us feel as though we were lied to, repeatedly, afterwards, and our pride and strength as a nation were compromised, by the individuals we believe hijacked our government.

You know, it's funny...I had a flag out for the first year or so (like everyone else on the planet!) I'd never been a flag-waving sorta boy, but right after the attack, I remember SCOURING Eighth Avenue for a flag, because it was so important to me to hang it out...

One day, two years later, I remember looking at it and saying to myself, okay, enough of this, this is making me ill, and I took the flag down, folded it, and put it away, thinking if I feel the need to put it back up, or if I got my patriotic feelings back, I'd just rehang it again.

Four years later, and it's still packed away...

Thanks for sharing your email with us, Steve. :(

It's a sad commentary on the current state of affairs in

I hope someday in the not too distant future that my country will once again earn the respect and admiration that I once had for it.

Steve, I'm sorry if some of us came down a bit hard, but you obviously hit a nerve. A lot of us are very frustrated at the way things are going these days, and a lot of us feel that there's little we can do but wait, vote, and hope.

The tragedy of September 11th was a significant event for us and for the world. Depending on our reaction, the world could have benefited from a hard-earned lesson or the US could have descended into barbarism, provincialism, ignorance, and xenophobia. The fact that we took the latter course will take a very long time to grow out of.

Flag

Thank you rickr for saying what is very much on my mind. I have a flag pole in my back yard - I took my US flag down the day "W" was so falsely elected. It has not flown and will not fly until the country of my birth returns to the world as an ethical and humanistic nation.

I too immediately put my flag out when I got home from work on 9/11/2001 but once Bush decided to go after Saddam to please his dad, I felt that flying the flag was a show of support for his self-serving and corrupt endeavors and stopped doing it. My partner lately has insisted on flying the flag again on holidays, but that's as far as it goes.

I don't see very many extra flags flying on December 7, which up until 9/11 was the worst attack this country had experienced, and won't be flying mine on 9/11 for many of the same reasons mentioned above. All I have to see is one of those moronic redneck monster trucks with a huge flag flying to validate my feelings that flying the flag is a show of support for the worst president the U.S.A. has ever (NOT) elected, who has brought this country to the lowest level of respect from other nations ever in history, and if I had my way I wouldn't fly it again until 1/20/2009 or later.

I thought this thread was going to age off quietly without anyone responding, but since that didn't happen, there's my $.02

Don't let it become a tool....

I'm in much agreement with everyone's postings so far, but I find it a tad, well, knee-jerk to not fly the flag because a W supporter or "redneck" flies it for their own reasons. Current gov't may be screwed up but the 50 stars and 13 stripes go a hell of a lot deeper than the latest war/events/media twist or happen to fly in front of this term's administration. There are very few places on this globe that offer all the freedoms I take for granted and I plan on flying the flag out of respect and thankfulness for those freedoms and those that perished, despite what a neighbor might misconstrue the showing for.

Freedom?

When dissent is stifled?

Freedom, when most of the site cannot legally marry?

Fredom, when our Constitution has been gutted in the name of "security"??

I still am horrified about what happened on 9-11-2001, but I am not hiding behind a cheap show of nationalism.

Around here, many of the people driving the most flag bedecked cars cannot be bothered to educate themselves and vote.

My 2 cents...

I've flown my flag since 9-11. I'm sorry that I didn't do it before that. Having driven past the Pentagon many times after it was damaged, well...I can't even tell you how mad I got every time I saw it. I've been to Ground Zero in Manhattan as well. Fly your flag, or don't. Whatever you do be proud to be an American. Let the shame be felt by the politicians who haven't yet figured out what it means to be in the "Land of the Free". They just don't get it. And when they catch Osama? I feel the appropriate punishment for him would be a sex change, after which he'd be sent back to live as a woman in his own culture. Don't you? =)

Right-on post Lawrence, and your final statement sizes things up nicely. I'd just like to expand on the piece about "educate themselves and vote." The problem is that they do vote. If they would only have educated themselves prior to voting Bush never would have been (s)elected in 2000. The fact that Bush slithered his way in for another four years in 2004 throws into question whether any amount of education would be enough. They had four years of being beaten over the head with White House arrogance and ineptitude (is there a worse combination?) and enough of those crackers still voted for him.

Douglas, your idea for Osama is beyond excellent!

I've deliberately stayed out of this, because I tend to get all hot-headed and lefty, but I must say that I'm impressed by how respectfully this thread is going along.

FWIW, I flew the flag on every national holiday, pre 9-11. (I am, after all, an Iowa boy at heart) but afterwards I was a little disturbed by the general air of mandatory flag-waving, so I stopped.

But then that started to get to me, as I regard myself as somewhat patriotic (I care enough to question things). I wanted to show my support and pride for my nation, but I didn't want to be supporting the bush regime.

So I started flying the "peace flag" - it looks like the US flag, except it has a peace sign where the stars usually are. Yes, it's hippy-dippy of me, and it annoys me neighbor to no end, but it's my own little form of polite dissent, and I'll fly it on every holiday - and on 911 - until this stupid war is over.

And that's all I'll say about that ;-)

Fly this:

I will not fly my flag on 9-11 and, like many others on this site, I have not flown a flag or displayed any smarmy "patriotism" since Bush and his band of brothers were installed in Washington DC. 9-11 was a failure of this country, its entrenched "intelligence" bureaucracy, its special interest groups and government by lobbyists. Bush, his inferiors and anyone who voted for him are as much to blame as the muslim fundamental cases who flew the planes. Thank you, but I won't be flying my colors until this country turns back towards sanity and pays more attention to humanity and less attention towards Brittany, Paris and the Bush twins.
