Does anyone have some Pix's of a similar Hotpoint Washer, to the one on the Picture Of Day, that had the Smaller inserted Mini-Basket similar to the GE's Mini-Basket?

These Washers were being sold somewhere around late 1960's to early/mid 1970's.

This Hotpoint Washer allowed you to do 2-Loads of different types of Laundry, and in separate Wash/Rinse Temperatures, besides haveing the Agitator Mounted Lint Filter.

We had that same washer.

Dad brought home that same washer in about 1975 except ours didn't have the "Lady Executive" feature.
I remember the turqoise spiral agitator that would squirt water into the lint filter ring that was hung on the agitator. The lint filter ring had an insert for softener. He said it was part of the "SILHOUETTE" line though it didn't say so. However, it did have an attractively angled escucheon and nicely matched our 1968 Hotpoint dryer. I'd love to have another as this washer was the best of the Hotpoints we owned. It always balanced spin loads. It died when it kept burning up clutch pads (?) and refused to spin. Does that ring a bell to anyone? After three transmission repairs it went to Hotpoint Heaven.

Are you sure the insert in the top of the agitator was for softener? Usually on that generation of Hotpoints, the bleach dispenser was inside the agitator. I have a Clorox ad somewhere that shows someone filling it with bleach.

Actually, according to my Hotpoint repair manual, the bleach dispenser was mounted on the agitator in the later Silhouette models.

Bleach and softener dispensers

As I recall, the very top of the agitator was hollow, with a grille present just below the top. Into the top of the agitator you placed the bleach.
Around the agitator you placed a turqoise plastic doughnut that was perforated to collect lint. The doughnut was actually two pieces though. The lower part was tub-like with a zillion holes and that was the lint filter. The top part was a white plastic doughnut-shaped topper that snapped onto the lower lint filter.
In this upper white plastic topper, there was a circular trough. Into this trough you would place fabric softener.
I believe how it worked was like this. With every stroke of the agitator, the orifices near the top of the agitator squirted water into the lower part of the doughnut which filtered lint. As the unit agitated though, the fabric softener did nothing except slosh around a bit. However, when the first spin occurred, the fabric softener would be flung by centrifugal force into the drum. The fabric softener would mix with the rinse water afterward.
Does this match what you remember? It has been 20 years since I used that washer, but I think that is the way it worked.
