Thanks, Bob...Those ads reside somewhere in my triva cortex, but are somewhat fuzzy along with other memories these days. But, here's another one: Who was the young female spokesperson for Blue Bonnet and Fleischmanns in the late 1950's and early 1960's? She wore cat's eye rhinestone glasses and I thought her name was Joyce.

from coffee to Compacts

also,Ruth Buzzi loved her Clorox 2 and Kevin McCarthy swore by the GE Potscrubber II dishwasher.Who can forget the Wicked Witch,Margaret Hamilton delighting in her Good To The Last Drop
Maxwell House,or Lauren Bacall with her High Point decaf coffee.Oh,and was Robert Young pushing Sanka mentioned?Or Joan Collins with Scoundrel perfume, and Linda Evans for Nice 'n Easy
hair color. And Natalie Wood said Raintree lotion was her potion.Dorothy Hamill swung her Short and Sassy shampooed hair around and Ruta Lee adored her Compact vacuum cleaner.

One Touch Glucose monitors.

lol!!!! couldnt you think of something more glamourous? ive heard you work in the medical field but COME ON! LOL

It may not be

"glamourous", dear brett, but regular use of a blood glucose monitor can help keep a person with diabetes healthy and alive a lot longer than without.

The fact that I happen to have (and use!) a One Touch Ultra b.g. monitor has nothing at all to do with the first paragraph of this reply.

Gene, I know exactly who you're talking about, though I have no idea what her name is. I have her on a couple of other commercials, including Crisco. She had a very distinctive voice; it always makes me want to rush right out and buy whatever she's plugging.

For a short while, Annette Funicello pushed "For Brunettes Only" hair dye...er...color. Was it Frank Gifford who extolled the virtues of the Westinghouse washer with the "hand wash" agitator?

Whatshisname, the baseball player, shilled for Mr. Coffee when it first came out. And didn't Joe Garagiola plug a product or two over the years?

I used to have a One-Touch Basic glucose monitor. LifeScan should have used the plant, Audrey II, from the Little Shop of Horrors as their spokesperson. The machine constantly read "Not Enough Blood." It may as well have said, "Feed me, Seymour."

Thankfully, the technology for these machines improves every day and now most of them need only a very small sample.

Yep, you're right Smoof--Joltin' Joe. I knew it was the guy who was married to Marilyn (who, by the way, plugged gasoline on TV before she became famous), just couldn't think of his name.

Thank goodness we have butch, masculine members like you who are true sports fans.

Wash & Where?

WHOA! What's with the caps and what's wrong with Anita Bryant.

You grow to love Madge, Mr. Whipple, Mrs. Butterworth, Mikie the Swiss Miss girl and then they go away.

And please, don't add milk.

I wish they'd come out with a DVD with the 70s-80s commercials.

Gene From Boise-
Yes, I'll second that. It's bad enough to stick fingers all the time without having to re-stick. I currently use an Ascensia "Contour", and so far have really liked it. I've had it since August. They've come a long way even from the meters of just a decade ago.

A big strong man in Pantyhose---and we need more Calgon !!

Joe Nameth--He did a pantyhose comercial, i do not know for which brand-- his legs looked really good.John Travolta in a Band-aid comercial, really hot, and in the shower all of the same time---oh my!! And,last but not least, the G.E.Filer-flo that was in the Calgon comercial"Ancient Chinese secret"

Ancient Chinese Secret... HUH?

I'd kill to see that commercial again. It is permanently ingrained in my memory. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

Patron: "How do you get clothes so clean Mr. Lee? "
Mr. Lee: " Ancient Chinese Secret! "
Mrs. Lee " My husband, some hot-shot. Here's his ancient Chinese secret - CALGON."
Narrator: "CALGON with it's two water-softeners helps soften water so detergents clean better. In hardest water, CALGON helps detergents get laundry up to 30% cleaner."
Mrs. Lee (to husband behind curtain) " WE NEED MORE CALGON!"
Patron: "Ancient Chinese secret.... HUH?"

The washer in the Ancient Chinese Calgon

spot was a GE/Hotpoint machine.

I was deeply amused by that ad.

Don't see a lot of tv anymore, but when I do see tv, most of the current commercials are so boring and careful.

I loved the Volkswagen ads of 5-7 years ago, particularly the Jetta ad with the hetero couple in New Orleans, and the Cabrio ad with Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" as the music.

More Calgon?

The commercial for Calgon showed a poor MOL GE agitating without the filter and STUFFED to the gills. Nothing ancient about the science of overloading washing machines!
