Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Someone....

May want this - it's a very rare range.

The burners were probably heated red-hot and left on after a pot was removed. Fortunately, they're still readily available and this model GE range does not have Sensi-Temp, simplifying burner replacement.

However, I can see some issues that the seller's "very good condition" description just glosses over. Chief among them are some chips in the side panels, and unless I'm mistaken, a crack in the control panel glass.

Burner trim rings appear to be original, meaning they're almost certainly due for replacement due to rust. I cannot tell much about the burner bowls, since they're covered with foil. If those are original aluminum ones, that's a plus.

Red GE Color

I had no clue GE ever offered this type of color. When was this offered and what was its official color name? This was a big surprise. Was the color offered for the whole product line?

This was a promotional range available in this color with the chrome-lined inner oven door. It actually does have a SensiTemp. The keyboard buttons contain one set for the oven at the far right, Bake, Time Bake & Broil with the oven thermostat on the right. On the left is the button set for the SensiTemp, 4", 6" 8" and Griddle with the thermostat for it on the far left. I did a lot of cooking on a range like this. Neighbors bought everything at once for their kitchen at a local GE dealer and got the range at a good price because of the color.

The link is to basically the same range in white on eBay.

I have corresponded with the seller since Friday about this and have tenative plans to travel south tomorrow and purchase it.

I did note the "clean" description with doubt, I see a lot of elbow grease and detailing ahead.

I believe after studing and emailing that the sensi-temp unit has been replaced; and that's fine with me. The left rear burner does need replacing, I hope I don't find much more than that when I see it in person.

Tom:

"It actually does have a SensiTemp."

I'll take your word for it, because I'm not seeing any indications of that in the burners themselves, and the resolution isn't high enough to see the indicia on the control panel.

As Lawrence says, if it ever had Sensi-Temp, the burner seems to have been replaced.

This model was equipped with Sensi-Temp when manufactured. The controls for the left-front read "Grille, 8 Inch, 6 Inch, 4 Inch, Off" and the dial to the left of the clock/timer is the thermostat for the unit. However, the seller told me that that burner says "Calrod" in the center - not a sensor. Leads me to believe the unit was replaced along with the pushbutton assembly and now simply functions the same as the right rear burner. Conjecture on my part based on the photos and what the seller told me.

Okay.

Looking at the white range on eBay, the res is high enough to see "Sensi Temp" on the control panel indicia and on the far-left bank of pushbuttons.

Learn something new every day....

BTW, the eBay range is schweet. Super clean, original aluminum burner bowls, and the Sensi-Temp sensor is present on the left-front burner. Someone's gonna be happy.

I Used Tilt-Lock.....

....Only today, when I got the Sensi-Temp burner's burner bowl dirty while scrambling eggs.

Tilt-Lock makes cleanup so easy I have to wonder why plug-in burners became the standard. Plug-in burners doomed Sensi-Temp, if I'm not mistaken.

Can't see the picture

For some reason, I don't know why, the picture of whatever that I'm to fight wild tigers for - is not visible on my screen.  I see a red x in the upper left corner.  Somebody please send me the picture or tell me what to do.  If I'm to fight wild tigers, I need real motivation.

Much fun!

John, do you mean the pictures at the top of the thread or in reply #14?  If it's the former, are you having the same trouble when you click on the link to the Craigslist ad?

P.S.:

It occurs to me that this model is an early appearance of the "upswept top" that became standard on GE ranges. For a long time, GE constructed the control panels of most models in a separate housing attached to the cooktop, with the result that there was a seam where the control panel housing met the cooktop - just where it would catch the maximum amount of grease and schmutz. This situation lasted through '71, with GE finally making a move toward a one-piece cooktop/housing assembly on most models in '72. My J 370, built in that year, has the one-piece "upswept" design.

My heart bleeds GE RED!

I love this color!  Well, in pictures anyway, I've not seen it in person.  There was another GE red range in Shawnee, KS a while back on ebay, here's the AW thread.  It sold for $20.50, the auction and pics can still be seen on ebay.  I had that KS range on my watchlist and it was all I could do at the time to not bid on it.  What a looker!

Good for you, Lawrence, I'm glad you're going after it.  The rarer the color, the more exciting it is and then red, from GE!

In my superserchalator search, I also came upon a GE mixer in the same color.  See that thread here.

Speechless, just speechless!

Thanks Phil & Sandy for sending the pictures as email attachments.  Something is screwy with my computer?  Not sure why, but some photos won't load in.  I could see the red stove, but not the washer/dryer.  And yes, Tigers would be no problem for red appliances.

Now to the real jaw dropper - Greg, that red GE stove, where was I at when you posted that.  It was literally in my backyard so to speak - and for $20!  My life gets so busy that I don't log on sometimes for days.  There's so much to see and read daily on AW, that if you miss a couple of days, you can really miss out!  Wow, I could kick myself for missing that.  If anyone sees another red appliance, near me, that you're not going to purchase, please email me, in case I'm in la la land or otherwise asleep at the switch.

Thanks

John
