Refinishing a dryer drum

Has anyone ever refinished the inside of a dryer drum? My 56 Whirlpool dryer drum was painted inside and the paint has worn off in places. The paint has to be heat and wear resistant,otherwise I would have the body shop paint the drum.
I did get an over the phone price to powder coat the drum. The quote was $150.00 to $200.00. I called Krylon Paint Company,and the rep. said they had nothing for this application. I guess I will do the powder coat,unless anyone else can tell me of a better way to go about doing this.

Hey Rick,

Whirlpool used to make a can of grey spray paint called flo-coat grey primer for bulkheads and drums. Part# is 350938. If it's still available, you can get through Sears or a parts house. Hope this helps!!

Thanks John, I will check into that product. Do you know if it is a primer only,or primer and the finished coat? Also have you ever used it,and with what results?

It is just a primer. I think it was mainly used as a touch up. Have never used it myself. If the drum was too far gone I would just wait for a scrapped dryer with a decent drum...although you don't have that option. I don't see reference to a finish coat paint, so maybe you could just use primer? Obviously that isn't a porcelain drum, otherwise the finish would be intact.

Hey Rick, I refinished my Westinghouse Laundromat Dryer about five years ago with white high temperature Rustoleum Rust-Proof paint, it looks like its brand new. It seems to have held up just fine, I'm sure they make a grey version too.

I have a Speed Queen dryer with galvanized drum which is rusting in spots. Any suggestions for this?

Thanks Robert! Can you tell me if this was a spray paint,or was it brushed on? Also how did you prep the drum?
BTW I found another powder coater in Fort Wayne. Can't get a price until Tuesday though.

Rick it's spray paint that I bought at Ace hardware. I didn't nothing to the drum but put on three coats of paint.

I used this on the 51 Bendix dryer I had - no problems at all. I used gray but toyed with the idea of a bright cheerful color too...lavender would be stunning!
