Back Growing up, my grandparents always had this beautiful fridge in the kitchen. A big chrome handle a big chrome V and what I always remembered as a round ruby like emblem.

They bought the fridge in the mid 50's and it ran without maintenance up until 1993, when the compressor died and it was replaced with a Westinghouse Frost Free model. We'd moved away at that point, and I was devestated to visit on Holidays to find my old friend gone.

Skip forward 14 years and what do I see on Ebay. The exact same fridge (Albeit a size or so smaller) In amazing condition for 50 years old, with 8 cubic feet of capacity. The interior of the cabinet is porcelian enamal in a violet hue, the door liner is plastic in a matching colour. I'm thrilled by the colours and the condition.

I just had to have it, and after a month of it being in Transit it was delivered a couple of hours ago. The delivery men have been complaining about its weight since they picked it up. Once its cooled down, I'll turn it off and move it so I can take better pictures on the model tag.

All my dreams came true when I found this, and I'm glad the huge cast iron compressor is now in my garage buzzing away :)

STC

Congrats on the great find!

I think Standard Telephone and Cable was a division of ITT, which made Coolerator refrigerators in the U.S. (in Duluth, Minnesota). I wonder if this is similar to a Coolerator of the same vintage.

STC Was part of ITT

The bright purple sticker on the inside of the door proclaims it :)

I remembered this pictures of me and the fridge at my Grandparents in 1983.

It was 1985 when the glorious orange was all ripped out and replaced with a modern tasmanian oak kitchen.
