It took me a few weeks to finish this little project but I finally got the telephone surface repaired and painted. I have returned the telephone back to it's place in the house (my bedroom for now but may move it to the library when I finish trimming up the book cases.

Another one

Figs I picked from a tree in the back yard. They looked so good on the old paris plate I had to capture it on canvas.

And..

here is a shot of the Ms. Georgia and Mr. Richmond that stayed uderfoot while I painted the phone (I know, I need to paint the kitchen and do something with that floor -believe me it's on the very long list of things to do).

greg

are the unpainted surfaces nickel? It turned out very nice.
Ms. G is a killer , but I'm sure Mr. R is too. I walk some of those big dogs at the County shelter and they are great humans! Nice kitchen sink too!

Your phone looks great!

Is the base metal or wood?
What kind of paint did you end up painting it with?
The lady in the oval frame, is she a member of your family?

Not sure

if it's nickel. The manufacture date inside states 1944. That really surprised me since it was made in Holland during the World War II. I thought the nazi's were shipping everything they could get their hands on back to Germany. Anyway, it cleaned up quiet nice and was easier to do than I thought it would be. You should hear the bell ring. A beautiful -and very loud-tone.

The pups are both from a rescue center. Ms. Georgia is the smaller one. She was found in a pen with 15 other dogs -all starving. She was 32 pounds underweight, skin and bones when I got her. Richmond is a big baby. A really sweet and playful soul. I got him as a puppy from the center, he was found on the side of a busy highway with a broken leg. I have had him about 4 years now and Georgia three and a half years.

Eventally I hope to find some vintage appliances for the kitchen. I have my eye on a 1954 Maytag Dutch-oven range but it may take a while to get it.

Now that I think about it, frontal, how can I tell if it's nickel? It's not plated but solid casting. A magnet would not stick to it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments.

Thanks Brian

The base is metal with a rubber strip around it. I used rustoleum glossy black paint.

The lady is an ancestress. Painted 1840, she is in the first stage of coming out of mourning according to the dress color, collar and small emerald pin she is wearing in the portrait. Her husband had died the previous year. This is the only formal painted portrait I have of an ancestor. One of my cousins has several that are slated to come to me when he passes away. I have some daguerrotypes and tintypes from the 1850's and 60's. And of couse the CDV's of the ones in uniform that went off to defend the confederacy. Good eye Brian.

Oh, the feet are small circular wooden ones.
