Republican or Democrat on Nov 7th?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Spin

Suddudeshane, you can't talk your way out of this one. You clearly suggested that runematic doesn't belong here. Don't try to spin it now. "You are on the wrong site pal...most of the posters on automatic washer.org are gay men." There's no ambiguity there. Truth is, a lot of people here would love to make this site eclusive to only those who think and feel the same way the majority of the mob feels. Or at least it would seem so from the exclusive environment that is created here day after day.

I've been observing this place for quite a while now and even though a lot of people demand tolerance, they are some of the most intolerant people I've ever encountered. They demand that other people tolerate them but feel no need to tolerate others. You don't realize your own hypocrisy.

Unlike others here who consistently make broad sweeping statements, I'm not saying that everyone here behaves in this manner. Some have a gift for expressing their views without offending others, but it's a minority.

Versatronic~"I've been observing this place for quite a while now and even though a lot of people demand tolerance, they are some of the most intolerant people I've ever encountered"

People on this site are the most intolerant people you have ever encountered?? Interesting since I know and believe that the majority of the people on this site are good, decent and respectful of others..

Sounds to me like you could be one angry Republican headed for defeat on election day..

Stating a well known fact

Also, to address you quoting me.. It is well known that the majority of posters on this site are gay men. I was suggesting that if Runematic was uncomfortable with comments posted on this site and his avowed support for one of the most bigoted Senators in this country,Rick Santorum that some including myself would find this offensive. I don't need to spin anything, I'll leave that to the Republicans. They are so very good at it.

Senator Elect Bob Casey Jr

Don't worry NeptuneBob...I am totally confident come Nov 8th..Bob Casey will be Senator Elect Casey

Nope, still didn't work

Sorry, still didn't work. You said what you said. You can't take it back.

Also, people here are quick to say that this place is filled with people who are "good, decent and respectful of others" as you say. Yes, there are some good people here, no doubt. A fellow I met here will be visting me in a couple of hours.

But in recent memory, I have seen members here literally wish death on a poster because because he had the audacity to express an unpopular viewpoint.

I have seen a thread about illegal immigrants where the tolerant people here referred to these people as rats, roaches, etc. etc. It was quite an eye-opener. You can delude yourself that this place is some kind of beacon of tolerance and respectfulness if you wish. But it's that, delusion.

You're the poster boy for this delusion. You don't care for what I had to say so I must be "one angry Republican headed for defeat on election day.." You know nothing about me. You don't know what my political affiliation is nor would it preclude me from having my opinion one way or the other.

I tolerate gays. I tolerate Christians. I tolerate anybody who is not hurting anyone else. Unlike you, I'm an equal opportunity tolerater and you don't have to be a republican or democrat to be truly tolerant. I won't judge all democrats or liberals by what the people on this website say, because that would be extremely unfair to most liberals. But, if I were to judge, I'd say that the Runematics, Kevin Prestons, etc., have shown much more class and tolerance and respect to others than the remarks coming from you and some other hysterical hate mongers here. Just my opinion, as long as that's ok with you.

The victim mentality and accusations of hypocrisy

I always find it bemusing when conservatives get their feelings hurt and feign injury when a liberal fights back or questions their motives in saying something.

While I realize that people are people, and not androids, we (liberals) have been subject to thirty years of being told we are horrible people by just about everyone on the AM dial, and a good chunk of the corporate media. It's a big lie, of course: While there are surely some horrible liberals, liberals are not, as a group, horrible people. Just as conservatives, as a group, are not horrible people. But we are not big on logic in this country.

So when a liberal gets angry or defensive when someone says something ignorant about us, the accuser gets his feelings hurt, and says something to the effect of "I thought all you liberals were supposed to be open-minded! You're such hypocrites!" If you want to see a great example of this, watch any interview with Ann Coulter)

The truth is that kneejerk conservatism (as opposed to true conservatives, who have an intellectual backing to their belieifs) depends on the "victim mentality" : The idea that the person is constantly persectuted (when they're not) and thus a victim. You see this in certain sects of fundamentalist religions too.

In short, too many people (both liberals and conservatives) can dish it out, but they can't take it. Kneejerk conservatism, and fundamentalism - both movements that depends on emotions rather than intellect - encourage this.

Hey Dan

Well, it's just a sad fact of life that if you are going to claim moral ground as being compassionate and tolerant that you are going to get called on it when you fall short. It's tough. I sensed your unease with the way that illegal immigrant thread was going. I would include you among those who speak eloquently and in such a way as to not cause offence to others.

Mama always said: Never match wits with an unarmed man

Very stimulating discussion, Shane. I am no match for your intellect. Uncle. You win this debate. I need to do some laundry now. Have a good day.

"I tolerate gays"~Versatronic

Versatronic Tolerates Gays...Well I wonder what my fellow gay posters think of that bigoted statement??? Get off your moral high horse Versatronic...Actually, It appears you did. Happy wash day!

Countdown to Democratic Victory...11/7/06

LET'S PROVE OUR INTOLERANCE FOR THE TOLERANT BY UH, UMMM...WHATEVER, I'M CONFUSED BUT SOMEONE SHOULD DIE, THAT I KNOW. WHO'S WITH ME????????.

Too funny. But really. I have to go now. Thanks for proving me point so well.

Well... I can see that everyone is on pins and needles, on AW too. Most of my gay friends are very angry right now also. I think that this group usually respects other peoples point of view much better.
The fact that the gay community was used and abused so many times for political reasons makes us more angry than most other people. Yes we are angry, and have good reason to be. Moral values, family, God, and all the good things were on one side of the fence. Gays were on the other side of the tracks. Oh, how I HATE that word moral.....
I have to admit that I am not the most tolerant person anymore. At any rate, I am less tolerant than I was a few years ago. I see the other side as the ones who are trying to use us, threaten us, trying to demolish us, and to make others afraid of us. So f-ck tolerance for right now. Will I still feel this way after Nov. 7th? I hope not, at least not to this degree. It takes up too much energy. But I learned a lesson many years ago, and I think now many gay people have too.
It does not pay to be tolerant, when you are being abused. And one other thing, if one is treated as an animal for long enough, one starts behaving as an animal.

Rick (who loves gangstas, and other nasty things)

There's nothing wrong with tolerance.

Tolerance:
–noun
1. a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own; freedom from bigotry.

2. a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one's own.

3. interest in and concern for ideas, opinions, practices, etc., foreign to one's own; a liberal, undogmatic viewpoint.

What's there not to like about that? I tolerate lots of things: TV, shopping malls, Wal-Mart, nosey folks, "new country", Seattle in November. You don't have to love everything or everyone. How boring would that be?

People get worked up when it comes to politics. But some people have more at stake than others when it comes to politics, so I think it's understandable when they get a little hyperbole-prone.

Let's face it: There are real issues (the war, civil rights, the debt, taxes) and there are made-up issues that are used to play on people's emotions and fear of change (the "war on Christmas", flag burning, the "gay agenda") And there real issues that are precluded from rational discussion because they get reduced to simple-minded sound bytes: (Gay rights, the role of religion in society, reproductive rights and responsibilities, the appropriate response to terrorism )

Until we learn to tell the wheat from the chaff, we are stuck with this inflamatory confrontational style. In that case, tolerance is our best hope.

Hi Dan,

I think your point of view is very true, up to the point of tolerance being the best hope. No minority has ever achieved their civil rights by being tolerant. It just does not seem to work any other way.

Oh, my. Seems we have O-FFENDED Versatronic.

Truth is, I'm not sure some people are even CLOSE enough to being angry about what's being done to us-and in this nation's name.

Watching the back-to-back political commercials on corporatist television earlier, I was quite taken by how much money is actually being spent by the fascists to cling to power. For them, it is all about power. And the fawning, conciliatory moderate Democrats are not much better.

Never mind about that. They are there, just a means to an end.

All of these commercials could have been replaced by one public service announcement, broadcast at the top of the hour: a clip of all the lying, theiving, raping, torturing vermin and parasites of the Bush Crime Family and the Republican Party, (ie Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gingrich, Wolfowitz, Perle, etc.) with an audio of Henry Rollins singing "Liar".....

Think that was just a song about spurned love?

Frankly, any American who wants "cooperation" and "bipartisanship" with these thugs has just acquiesced in their own rape.

Offended?

Why would I be offended? Life is too short to go around angry or to get offended by other people. Your happiness should never depend on the approval of others. Mine does not.

I was merely pointing out that you are not really asking for a debate, but looking to crucify people who don't share your views. This is a hobby website and saying people should leave because they don't share your views is intolerant and exclusionary, the things you claim to hate. That's all.

Oxydol, you are correct. Not everyone is as angry as you. Nor should they be. For one, it's not healthy. Man, you are going to have a heart attack or something. You can't have a happy life if you are that worked up in a lather all the time. Two, the sky is not falling. Not one of my rights has been taken away in the last six years. No one has been snooping around in my bedroom. The economy is awesome. No one is "raping" me. Man, that is just over the top.

You ought to learn to get out and relax more. You sound like you are in hysterics. It going to be OK. Honest.

Why is there a FEMA detention camp in Beech Grove, Indiana?

And why does EVERY state have at least one?

Don't ask ANYONE to relax, when this is being done in your name.
