Rescued: 1960's(?) Whirlpool Washer looking for a forever home...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Launderess, dear, my Mama's solution to the "filthy" filter was a comb kept in a glass next to the washer. Kept it fresh as a daisy.

Beautiful Whirlpool. You don't see many with the manual filter and bleach dispenser. Thanks for sharing the video with us. I loved the shot of the filter with the brush removed. My grandmother had a 1966 24 inch model with the partial console which I got to watch operate only once, and watching the water rush past through the filter with the brush removed was my favorite moment. I hope it finds a good home<br
Have a good one

That's absolutely amazing! I would love to give it a "forever home", but am unable to ship currently. (reserves are low) I love it! My mother's best friend had the very same one, except the agitator was black and there was no manual lint filter - OH and it was a Sudsmiser...

No longer homeless...

One of our members just on the other side of Donner Summit from me is going to come get her. Nice thing is he's bringing me a present which I'll post pictures of when she gets here. It'll be a big restore project for me but well worth it..<br

Newer than 60's

This washer is from the early to mid 70's. It has a 70's style instrument panel, and a white agitator. Most or all of the 60's models had black agitators.

Unless you're working with a rare super-tall centerpost 196?-1973 large capacity machine, ALL the belt-drive agitators will fit in all the machines. The Straight-Vane, the various Roto-Swirls, the Vari-Flex, the Roto-Flex, and the two Whirlpool Surgilators are all interchangeable and meant to be used in standard capacity tubs. The early bakelite agitators will require drive-blocks to be installed in newer machines. <br
The Penta-Vane, the Penta-Swirl, the large Surgilator, and the Double-Duty Surgilator are also all interchangeable in the large capacity machines. These will fit in a standard tub machine (they look majorly funky). A Penta-Vane in a standard tub though is beyond amusing. Putting a standard agitator into a large machine can be done also, but high water levels can go way too far up the neck of the agitator in the largest machines<br
The Dual-Action's base is the same in both capacities, but they use different augers for the two capacities. So, you can basically put anything into anything, provided you're not dealing with the elusive tallest post models<br

Thanks!

That's very interesting to know. I'll have to keep my eye open for some different agitators then. I'd love to get an older surgilator and definitely a rotoswirl. The machine is a beast with the vari-flex already! Would be fun to play!

Gordon to the rescue

Did you see the agitator in Fred's new find. Is the a Pentaflex, and is it interchangeable as well? It, along with the Vari-flex, is my favorite agitator, a tie actually. When you look at the pic, it seems as if there should be yet another "flex" making six altogether. What, dear friend, am I missing?

I know that this is an old post and this machine has long been claimed.

I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get one of these for my collection. My grandma had this exact machine in avacado. I would like to find one in working condition near me.

Thanks in advance,
Jesse

What I am looking for is an older whirlpool washer with the brush filter. I just mean that I am looking for an older whirlpool with that filter and simpler controls like this one has.
