Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wow! What finds!

Geez, this'll teach me to go out looking jobs instead of watching the board... I just checked this out and all I can say is WOWWEE!! Kevin, you did the right thing! The Bendix washer and dryer, even though not necessarily a matched set are rare enough, but that unused LadyK 230V dishwasher is just awesome!! Congratulations on a major rescue operation here!! I can't wait to see more about them all - have fun and make us all proud!! Congratulations!!!

"Robert... Jon (Jetcone) is black mailing me..."

I see that Kevin, hmmmph don't worry she's going to get a big slap when I see her!

That Bendix "almost perfect" pair are a.k.a. "Margaret Anderson Specials," as used by Jane Wyatt's character on TV's "Father Knows Best."

This tripped me out when I read it. Margaret Anderson is my Mother's name! LOL. She got a kick out of that too!

LOL!!

No sisters, well, biologically anyway, and none are named Kathy or Betty. I do have one brother whose name is Ben. Which is kind of close to Bud! LOL

The view the clothes see....

Robert had asked about the tub/door/boot/seal. Actually it's intact! When I rubbed my hand around it the upper area felt a little "grainy" but the lower part felt pretty good.

So here is a pic of the tub boot from the inside. As you can see, some cracking. I don;t know how it would hold up with use tho....

I'm ready for my close up, Mr Deville!

As you can see... views from the left side and the right.

Any idea if there are options for replacing those little shock absorbers? The tub moves around like they are not even there...

On the right you can see the all important "Magic Heater" wires.

And now the view from the front

I actually got REALLY daring! I plugged it in and turned the timer dial! The water valve buzzed and turning it further, the solenoids for the speed changer and the drain valve buzzed. Unfortunately the motor just buzzed also. But that is probably a good thing as it's not ready to run yet!

If there were any coins in the lint trap Kevin see the one with the latest year, that is a basic indication of the last time it was used.

Also the pump is probably gummed up, pour really hot water down the drain hose, then manually try and turn the pulley to free it. Once its free, plug it back in and try it.

Kevin

A couple things I noticed in your photos.

This has to be 55 machine that is the older style door boot, they changed the opening in 56 on all the machines. The boots I have fit the later style. The only modern boot that fits this is the small door Speed Queen so I'd get one of those on hand pronto. Also I'd start rubbing that door boot down with glycerin on both sides of the boot, it just might bring it back. You can get that at any Drugstore.

Also on the motor, you say it buzzes, these machines used the notorious Delco motors and they have the same problem as Frigidiare's, the start switch sticks, doesnt' cut out and burns the windings by over heating. I'd lube the front motor bearing there should be a lube hole drilled in the top of the shaft behind the pump. If you have one of those pin lube tubes you can get it in there, you might even get to lube the shaft of the start switch. Robert had an article on this switch here many many moons ago. Once the start switch is moving then I'd run the motor.

The shocks I am surprised they are as loose as you describe. The tub should move freely in the cabinet but it shouldn't bounce or oscillateit should damp out quickly.

I think mother bendix has said enough today!
Have fun with it.
