Oh, my...what a cooooool time-waster that one is! I actually recognize some of the places from Austin! The "Villa Capri" was definitely a biggie here! So was "The Jet"...long ago!

Ah, gettin' old doesn't have to be ALL bad...as long as you can remember some of the fun stuff!

When I want to step back in time I go to Bob's Big Boy in Burbank (Toluca Lake). Not sure how they manage it, but the food is exactly the same as it was 40 years ago. Every few months I must have their spaghetti and chili.. :-)

One of the last, if not THE last, of the old places left in the all-new-hideously-yuppified-tear-it-all-down Austin is a tiny, tiny little diner called "Arkies" that is exactly the same as it was "back in the day"...Serving excellently greasy breakfast tacos, along with all the typical diner far.

And every single Thursday through the entire year their lunch special is Turkey and Dressing. Ya gotta love it. Got bought a coupla years ago, but the new owner (thankfully) has decided not to change anything. Hallelujah for that!

What great pictures. We used to have quite a few nice places much like those back in the 50's and 60's on the "Golden Mile" of motels and diners before the 402 freeway was built linking us to I94 and the 401 into Toronto. When that was built the Golden Mile became obsolete and all those places closed and were torn down or are so modified you'd never know what they used to be.
