Retro Style Appliance Brands - Are the high quality?

Hey everyone,

I work for an appliance dealer in Tulsa OK, and we are thinking about expanding into some retro appliance brands. Tulsa is a very modern and "hipster" community so we feel like these retro styles would do great here if we kept a limited supply in stock, or just set it up to where we could special order and install for customers. I wanted to reach out and see your opinions on some of these top "retro" brands like Smeg, Big Chill, other similar brands. Has anyone owned one of these and if so how was your experience with them? We only want to provide the best products to our clients so we would love to hear your opinion.

Personally

I think they are just retro looking sheet metal over ordinary modern cheap appliances, When someone shows me a refrigerator with a all porcelain interior instead of plastic, stainless steel shelves and porcelain meat keepers and crispers and a proper refrigerator that is a manual defrost then I will be interested and the most important thing, it must have a real compressor in it not a foreign built tiny screaming thing, I mean a REAL Techumseh or Copeland, Same with a stove, Show me one with a appliance outlet, fluorescent light, analog clock real heavy duty coil units similar to Westinghouse Corox or Frigidaire Radiantubes and a real mechanical thermostat Then I might be interested Until then I will stick with my 59 Westinghouse stove!

Don't know anything about Smeg,

but the Big Chill line is doing exactly what is mentioned above. They used Whirlpool sourced appliances and put panel kits on them and paint cabinets as necessary. On the dishwasher line they actually offer the panel kit on its own that goes directly on a Kitchenaid.
