Decided I wanted mac & cheese for lunch today. I got distracted and did something really dumb - put the paper cup of pasta in MW without filling it with water. Needless to say, after a couple minutes it made a good bit of smoke. It's rather cold outside, so can't open the doors and windows to air things out. What is the best way to get rid of the burnt odor in the MW?

Maybe put a small shallow dish of white vinegar in the MW and set it for say 1.5-2 mins to get the vinegar to boil, then leave it in the MW with the door closed for about 30 mins. This may get rid of the odor. I know that placing small dishes of vinegar out in a home overnight after a party is said to rid the home of cigarette smoke odors.

Thanks for the reply, Eddie. I looked, but couldn't find the vinegar, so I'll have to get some at the store tomorrow.

House smells somewhat better now. I could smell it everywhere I went, even outside, so took a shower and changed clothes, which made a big difference.

Until you can get the vinegar, you could try to make a baking soda and water solution or club soda instead of water and wash out the oven with that. When we used to defrost our 19551 Frigidaire refrigerator, we always finished that way to eliminate odors. The smell is probably in the wave guide and other inaccessible areas so it's going to be a matter of replacing one aroma with a more pleasant one. Maybe you could boil some orange juice in a dish for a few minutes to see if that helps. Best of luck.

Tom, I think you're right about it being in inaccessible areas. I cleaned the inside thoroughly yesterday, which helped a little. Going to the store today, and will get white vinegar - I need it for other things anyway.
