I thought someone would beat me to this but I saw an obit in today's paper for the "Peruvian Songbird." I have an autographed 10" LP of "The Voice of the Xtbay" along with a more modern 12" issue of the same record. This lady's voice could cut tin! The obit also made mention of a 1971 psychedelic rock album she released. I think I need to get my hands on a copy of that!

...playing her "Ultimate Collection" CD as I type. An acquired taste, sure, but what an INSTRUMENT!

Spelled backwards, her name is Amy Camus

Trivia: Color TV was originally patented in 1951 by CBS as an electro-mechanical system (electronic tube with spinning color "filters"). It worked well but was cumbersome. One of the first CBS broadcasts of color TV was "Premiere" hosted by Ed Sullivan. Ms. Sumac was one of the featured performers, no doubt because she was known for her colorful, flamboyant costumes as well as her celebrity. Actress Nannette Fabray was among the others appearing on that landmark show. CBS's patent was revoked when RCA introduced all-electronic color in 1954.
