Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

:-)

Yes, the Kenmore from hell, that refused to be grateful and then fried me to boot :-)

It probably was reprocessed into several hundred Toyota accelerator pedals.

Thanks for the tour, Drew--that's really great (and heartening!) to see. Love the D&M--almost exactly my grandmother's dishwasher, which is still chugging away to this day.

Hey Nathan -

I wish I had been a member here when the evil Kenmore was getting it's turn at the refurb stand. I really would have enjoyed witnessing that. Some machines just don't appreciate an owner's hard work, do they? Others just submit and are so grateful! Maybe your '61 was brain fried from all that sun?

I think this dryer, if it's any more grateful than your washer, will be glad to sit next to my 61 washer some day.

I think Nate's '61 was Christine's little sister. Never did anybody any good.

Andy - awesome find. There are still a few places like this in Iowa, and has reminded me to get in touch with a dealer I've been tracking for years now....

Your establishing shot of the Neveahda~Nevahda *sky--very fe

*depending on one's accent:)

Just keep thinking about a massive resurrection of the appliances corpses. I kept expecting a rodent mummy to pop out. (chuckle)

Reply #23~"A victim of appliance head hunters?" Never seen that one before Andy. Ah, the never-ending variety of KM consoles. Wonder if G has the washer?

Your competence is both humbling and inspiring. You suggest a venue for us, then you're the first to go out and do it. What a guy--you. What a lay-about--me;-D

Looks great, Andrew, are those items for sale? With the price of scrap these days, finding places like that is getting harder and harder.
I once had a Maytag 906 washer with a broken glass panel. I took a piece of plexiglass, cut it to fit, then sprayed the inside white. It worked out great.

The '61

I'll repost the pics of that resto when I dig them out of iPhoto--I ended up taking down the page that had them. They were...educational :-)

The '61 was my first lesson in "you need to be picky about what machines you undertake," which is a policy I'm pleased(?) to say I've never truly taken to heart, and my most recent project underscores that :-).

Well, two most recent projects...one of them comes home today. Oy.

Yours is very pretty. I was able to restore all the console paint but not the plastic insert, which had yellowed and hazed in the sun. And yes, as Ben pointed out, it was Christine. :-)

This '61 would be a LOVELY addition to your washer. I liked my washer--it washed very well and was pretty--but I simply could not iron the bugs out of it. Plus, it was my first real restoration, and I was young, naïve, and unschooled in the ways of gasket sealant silicone. :-) ("I smell gear oil. What is that?")

I cannot believe those finds. We have the built in model of that Kenmore dishwasher. I have never seen another one like it. Also that gas whirlpool was just like the one my grandma had, except hers was electric.

Louis - What an eye! Right on both guesses!

Kenny - a few of them are rebuilders for him, mostly the new stuff. The older stuff is available and he's very reasonable on what he wants for them. Why? See something(s) you like? I actually found a few things for me (BIG shocker)and a couple for someone else (I'm just gonna have to build that conveyer belt to N.C.!), six in all and the cost is VERY reasonable!

Michael - You are too kind. I actually got the idea for the post from your comment you left on my Frog Eye post. Something about a cool appliance Easter Egg hunt? So, I'll say thanks to you!!!

Andrew, What a neat place. I haven't seen a haul like that in years. My parents bought a Gaffers and Sattler stove like the pink one but in white. It didn't have the windows in the oven or broiler though. They bought it in June of 1958 when we moved to the new house. It was a beautiful stove. My mom kept immaculate care of it. The white window between the two plugs has light ups in them. Oven on oven ready. Broiler on broiler ready. Nice broiler on the left. Griddle was thermo controlled. One of the plugs is timed controlled. griddle dial looked like a oven dial with temps on it. The thing cooked awsome pancakes and french toast as you had good control with the flame. The big dial on the left was a timer for the broiler. You set the timer and pushed in the button. When the time was up the button popped out and the broiler turned off. I think there was some neat features on that stove for 1958. There is some good stuff there for you Andy. Maybe we can find a pentaswirl and straight vane kenmore agitators that I could play with in the Whirlpool. Let me know and $$ amount. Good luck with your new finds. Dano-Bendix 5
