Here's the deal
I picked my machine up from the junk pile at a local appliance store and wanted it because it was a completely white on white Imperial model, that is, White panels, and control panel and white edge trim on the door panels. I always likeD that look. When I plugged it in and threw water into the tank, the machine shorted out because there was a small hole that leaked on to the heating element and tripped the breaker,I was thinking of fixing it but then saw the warranty details in the owners manual and gave it a shot.
They asked for model and serial number and sent a tech out to check it. He was really happy because the unit was in my garage and he didn't have to pull it out from the cabinet, He said that the tank was NLA and that WP found it less expensive to just replace the whole unit. He put it in for replacement and then I had to contact WP to get the deal moving. The wanted $150.00 to swap the machine out but I persisted that I should not have to be held responsible for them supporting the warranty on their product. They asked for $75 instead and I still insisted that I would not pay it. So the rep relented and told me she would send it for free but that their local guy would have to install it.
Since she told me who the rep was, and I pass their place of business nearly once or twice a week, I stopped in when the machine was shipped and arranged for them to let me just take it home and install it myself. He agreed to it but I had to leave the old machine out for them to pick up when they were in my area. No Problem!!!
I asked if I could have anything off of it and he said I could take anything I wanted but had to make sure the tank was there with the serial tag on it.
Well that was a done deal and I had a brand new KUDP02IRWH2 within about 2 weeks. I finally installed it 4 years later and have had it as a daily driver for 2 years now.
The wife still wants our KDS18 put back but I enjoy the silence and it actually does a good job of cleaning the dishes but it doesnt hold as much and takes really long to complete any given cycle.
I did swap the Hydrosweep arm with a Whirlpool wash arm because I think it cleans better especially in the corners of the rack and gets the silverware much better than the Hydrosweep arm. The WP arm is longer and has its end nozzles pointed better to get the silverware on the side of the rack and the extended front portion of the KA rack.
