Just saw this in my lowes circular today. $1600+ each.
Novel or fad....?

Progress, My Hind Foot!

After hearing opinions from others I at least give HE FL type machines a small amount of credit and would recommend a WP VMW machine but this??? This is the exact definition of adding $75 of plastic so you can mark it up by $700. It is just like those "spring assisted" pull recoils on small power equipment, they add $4 in extra stamp steel for something that is even less convenient to use than a standard pull cord, but creates a buzz word worth $35 on the sticker price.

As a side note, how often would this get used? I think the average household would only have the pressing need to use this second washer maybe once quarterly.

Also flat-dryer, really? "to prevent shrinkage" In that case use low heat or set a high time on the air fluff cycle. And if you really need a "flat-dryer" once in a while just lay the items on the table but heaven forbid spend the extra $700 on a glorified wrinkle permanent-wave machine.

I guess it would be a great addition to the HGTV Dream Home.
It does also have a bit of a WOW factor.
But in all honesty, GE has been down this road with the mini basket.
You know, "for those nuisance loads"!

This is very similar to the LG set up with the 2nd (small) washer in the pedestal below, but this set up is all together in the one box. Of course Samsung took it a step further by adding the additional drying compartment at the top of the dryer "ala the Rheem dryer" of the 1950's.

Normally I would add the link for the thread about the Rheem dryer I discovered and bought a few years ago, but at the moment I'm only able to access the internet thru my phone and I cannot access the archives.

Back to this Samsung set up. As for how useful would it be, I thought the same thing about LG's Sidekick(?) washer. Then a woman posted here that she bought the set with the little washer and loves it because she regularly does smaller loads (delicates, etc) along with regular loads and with (2 or 3?) kids, it saves her time.

About a week ago I saw a thread about a Rheem dryer on Craig's List, turns out it was pretty near by so I contacted the seller. Long story short - it's now in my BLINDINGLY BRIGHT garage! Woo hoo! LOL So here it is folks, the 1956 Rheem Wedgewood gas dryer!

Usefullness of the Little Washer

As far as the usefulness of the little washer...it is handy. I think if you never had one and no opportunities to put it to use, you may not be aware. Here are some real-life examples of my own:

<li>Very small loads -One week I wash whites and lights together, and the next week I do them separately because I don't want/need to bleach whites every single week. When doing these loads separately, I have little to wash of lights, so they can go in the Sidekick.</li>
</ul>

<li>Washing something you don't want in with your regular laundry -like when my husband spilled diesel on his work pants. I just tossed them in the Sidekick as soon as he got home, and outside they went to dry and air out, then they went in with his work clothes load later that week. If I had just thrown that pair in with all his work clothes, EVERYTHING would come out smelling like diesel. Ask me how I know. And it's not unusual for him to get something stinky or disgusting on his work clothes that should be washed separately, and something I would not want to wash by hand. One day he had to fill in for a garbage thrower and got sprayed with garbage truck compactor juice. NASTY. Thankfully no one had to wash that out by hand before throwing it in with the regular wash.</li>
</ul>

<li>Those occasional mishaps -where something receives a major spill and you will need to wear it again before wash day... like when I missed my lips, or smacked my coffee cup against something when in a rush, and got coffee down the front of my good coat. Expletives, then throw it in the Sidekick.</li>

<li>When you realize you missed part of a load of laundry and the cycle is too far along to add it -I *thought* I was on my last load of laundry for the day...then I walked past my daughter's room and there it was---her pile of darks. Another day I had finished all the laundry, then I realized I had missed the dog's car-seat-protector blanket, so in the Sidekick it went.</li>
</ul>
I am sure others could add some more instances where their Sidekick came in handy.

I would totally buy this washer set up if I didn't already have my set up. The Sidekick has a couple big flaws. One, the Warm water option. You call that warm?? Two, you cannot use bleach in the Sidekick. My understanding is that the Samsung little washer gives you the option for Hot water, and you can use bleach in it.
