Yeah,
It's all been done before. Sears, GM, and Ford, etc. sure knew how to market.
A Galaxie 500 with some extra chrome trim, plastic wood on the dash and doors, and maybe a little extra sound insulation was an LTD. Even standard hidden head lamps for 1968, '69, and '70. They were optional on the Chevy Caprice for'69.
Both were good sellers, but sales began to slack in the mid 70's. By 1990, the LTD name was gone, except in Australia, but our Crown Victoria named after a 1955 and 56' Ford with a tinted glass forward roof section stayed in production beyond 2007 for the Aussie Fairlane derivative. Now their Falcon is also done, leaving them with only the Mondeo from Cologne, and the Mustang from here, and maybe an imported Ranger tuck.
The Caprice here was done by 1995, the last B body GM car being the '96 Impala SS. The Aussie Holden Commodore/Statesman Caprice survived through this year. You see some badged as Chevrolet Caprice police cars. In China it remains the Buick Park Avenue. Shanghai GM many continue badging Holden's for Australia, maybe not.
