Friends and I have bought this detergent again and it sounds like it may have changed?I have not had chance to open mine yet but apparently there is a very large scoop inside, and it sounds like the density of the powder may have changed? My friends husband had used it last evening but no feed back yet.
Last box I bought it had the powder in a plastic bag inside the box I asked her if that was the case she said no bag either.
Anyone tried it lately, is it different to the last lot made?Interesting enough it says on the box "made for all machines including HE".
Appreciate any comments.Thank You

I will be finding out next week.....

I am almost out of the box I bought in January. I use the orange box variety.

I bought a box of the Sears Ultra Plus about three weeks ago, and it was the same as always - in a plastic liner with a small measuring scoop. It's the version in the orange box, item number 32.9879, which is "Fresh Scent".

Since you are in Canada, Sears there may be using a different vendor than they do here. DeSoto Chemical in Joliet, IL has been the manufacturer of Sears detergent for many decades, and once was also their paint supplier. They divested the paint division, and Sherwin-Williams is now making Sears paint.

Opened It

I just opened the box and it is different. There is a large green scoop, not like the tide box but similar, and the detergent is no longer like a flour it is granular like the others, and has a funny color to it , it certainly isn't white, so it should be interesting to see what is next with the first load I do.Well here's hoping the performance of this product hasn't changed , like creating a sudsing issue?
Later :)

Does anyone remember a couple of years ago in CR ratings of detergents that they didn't test the Sears brand because of some environmentally hazardous chemical (not phosphates)?  I wish I'd saved that review, I was surprised to see that.  I haven't used it for several years as I found it foamed up in the rinse cycle.

I've been reading CR detergent reviews for maybe 10 years steadily, and I don't remember seeing that, no. Not to say I might have overlooked it. Wonder what it could have been?

They seem more interested in liquids now, but that does reflect the market.

Verdict In

Just tried this detergent, using the same quantity as the older format and it worked fine and rinsed clear.Thank you for your responses :) .

And I HATE IT!

Supersuds made this comment in reference to Consumer Reports testing of detergents:

I wish the majority of the detergents CR test now would be powders, although those are harder and few to come by (but I know they are tested).

Again, wishful thinking on my part (but I wouldn't be surprised if a vast number of members felt the same way), but I would GLADLY give my left arm for the powdered detergents of yesteryear (20-25 years ago) to make a come back onto the detergent aisles of America once more. I'd also like to see the number of liquids DECREASED to what they were during that era as well (I think the major liquids of that time were Tide and Cheer formulas, Wisk, All, Dynamno and Era).
