Sear's Laundry Detergent

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have used it and still have some from when it came in the plastic bucket. It really does what it says, there is an extremely light scent, almost non-exsistent when clothes come out of the dryer. The clothes are soft tho.

"Danger Will Robinson!Danger! Danger!"

Never,Absolutely never should any detergent be mixed with a fabric softner!!!I had so many customers who , after about a year, would come and talk to me about the black spots that would acumulate on their freshly cleaned laundry. It didn't matter whether they had a top or front loading machine. They were using either Bold,Tide or an off brand detergent with fabric softner in the mix. What happens is,because of the wax that is in all fabric softners and the anionic and nonionic surfactants in the detergent,it causes a gummy wax build up in the outer tub lining which, after a few washings, begins to peal off from the friction and vibration of the spin and drain mode and mix into the rinse water. That causes deposits of this tar like substance to deposit onto the clothes you just washed. The top loaders that have the agitator with a built in fabric softner cup on top work well but, most users do not dilute the liquid which will build up a gummy like substance that causes the same problem and is a bitch to take apart to clean.

In order to remove the spots on the clothes, the best thing to do is take a bar of soap and treat each spot indidualy by rubbing the soap bar onto each spot. Then, wash it in a regular or HE detergent that has no fabric softner in it.The soap will remove the wax and the clothes will be fine.

Many of the washers, mostly models less than 6 years old,we get here are full of this wax deposit.I usualy use meratic acid and run it through using hot water and run yhem through the entire 18minute wash followed by two full rinses.I use the entire gallon and get great results. When the wash water drains with the acid in it,it flushes out all the gook that has built up in the years of abuse these washers go through. There ought to be a law against this horrible mix!!!Maybe I need to start the SPCA but for appliances as well as animals!!

I wasn't paying attention to the pic when i was typing before, I have used the regular Sears detergent without fabric softner for years, I have actually never ever used fabric softner or anything with fabric softner in it, I dont see a point in using it.
The regular HE Sears detergent is wonderful, have never seen this version.

Sears Ultra Plus is amazing

Use around 10 boxes a week. And most of the time out performs ANYTHING else I have used. Wonderful on heavy blood work.

I agree with sudsman!!!

The Sears Ultra Plus is AMAZING. (Orange and green box, as pictured above).

It gets out all my stains, is low sudsing, and has a barely detectable scent when the clothes are dry.

Just good detergent.

Sears HE Detergent---

is among the best on the market but remember, only the type w/out fabric softener! I,myself, prefer Gain w/Bleach in liquid as well as Gain Liquid fabric softener which I DO NOT use on socks, underwear or towels because it reduces the absorbtion level of water and perspiration needed in them.on occasion,I will throw in a dryer sheet of Gain fabric Softener to keep the static cling down but only one sheet, not a whole box like some folks do here at my laundromat.

Chuck : we cannot use ANYTHING with a softener in it.

Causes hell on tumblers lint traps. They take almost 2x as long to clean. The lint will not "fall" on to the floor of the tumblers as it should. And they will end up taking 5 or 10 mins. longer to dry. We are too overloaded with work as it is.

There is a technical term used in Australia for that oily/waxy build up of fabric conditioner - SCRUD

It happens here not as a result of combination washing powders, but more because the vast majority of Australians wash in in cold water. Some never use warm or hot at all. As a result, the film builds up over the years and next thing you have waxy grey spots on your clothes. It tends to affect top load machines more than front load as most people with front load machines will run at least a warm wash every 4 or 5 cycles.

The normal suggestion to remedy that here is to do a hot only cycle with at least a double dose of detergent. Agitate for 1/2 the wash cycle, turn off timer and sit for an hour then let the cycle finish.

I have never had the problem, but don't use conditioner. My mother does and has not had it nor my sister...but both use warm and hot water. On the other hand, I did some washing at my aunts when house sitting some years ago and wondered what the marks were that appeared on my whites...it took me ages to find out what and I have never used her machine since.

Here is the excerpt from the Fisher & Paykel handbook...

Scrud
Scrud is the name of the waxy build-up that can occur within any washer when fabric softener comes into contact with detergent. This build-up is not brought about by a fault in the machine. If scrud is allowed to build-up in the machine it can result in stains on the clothes or an unpleasant smell in your washer.

If you wish to use fabric softener we recommend:
- Use it sparingly.
- Measure it carefully to ensure you do not fill above the MAX level.
- Clean the dispenser as soon as the cycle has finished.
- Clean your machine regularly using the AUTO CLEAN cycle (see page 25).

Cold water washing increases the chance of this build-up occurring. We recommend a warm or hot wash at regular intervals, eg. every 5th wash.

Nice to hear...

About Sears and Tide.
I detest the smell of Fabric Softner Sheets and Liquid Softners. It always (the scent) reminds me of a Cheap Perfume Store ot Counter. Laundry should smell Fresh and Clean/ Not masked by a scent. (The same way I prefer my men) Scents clog up my sinus that's why I prefer No deodorant or colonge. If your wearing fresh clothes and shower everyday, Why do you need more ???
I'll go to Sears and try their Brand

I want to try either the Ultra Plus or the Advanced Formula Ultra Plus. The price isn't too bad, the Advanced Formula Ultra Plus is $22.99 for the the 26.4 lb 270 load box.

Lee, are you using the Ultra Plus in a top or front loader? The Advanced Formula Ultra Plus can be used in both top and front loaders, which I thought would great when I get my Maytag 806. I wouldn't have to buy two different detergents.

The Sears detergents are relatively low on optical brighteners (Tide is relatively high in them) and therefore should not cause undue "fading".

It's not really a fading of the fabric dye, anyway, it's overlaying it with an optical brightener that absorbs UV and emits visible light. So it can make dark fabrics look faded even though their original dyes are still there.
