motor

on it's side. note the 2 ports on drain pump. the larger port is for the top rack spray tube. when motor reverses it pumps thru the smaller port which is the drain.

now i'm gonna take a break here and try to get that bottom impeller off. more pics will follow when i do

well

the impeller won't budge so i'm going to stop for tonite. i will post pics as i continue to work on this machine. they will be in a seperate new post for those who are interested.

oh yes, i will prob use my dremel and a cutting blade to gently cut that lower impeller off the motor shaft.

Very nice, Petere!

...and it sounds like this guy is going to be better than ever when you are finished with it. I enjoyed reading your assessments of work to be done as you went along. And ah, yes, the versatility of the Dremel tool!

(Don't you kind of wonder if you're too into it when you can look at something, and immediately in your mind, you're chucking the drill or the Dremel, and working out the process? :-) I do the same with the vacs I collect. I'll look at one, and think "400 grit sandpaper, emery, tripoli..." Ah, it's all in the details!

Something you pointed out -- the storage area for the hookup and it's lid. This is the kind of thing I love about vintage appliances. They were designed and built with the end consumer foremost. These days, they're designed and built with keeping a low production cost foremost.

It's the touches like the storage area...you can leave it out in the kitchen, all nice and tidy in and of itself. The new stuff, sheesh, makes your kitchen look like you're having the plumbing replaced.

i don't like

any appliance that came out after around 1979!!! and the brand new stuff! don't get me started on that! if i could push a button and return to the 50, 60's, or 70's i would be gone tomorrow!

just located the

gasket on the web, it's 12 bucks, not bad. found the supply tube as well but it's 53 bucks, gonna wait on that one, seems ridiculous for that little peice of plastic tubing. i will improvise i think on that! this machine will not be used much anyway as i have 6 kitchenaids in my kitchen. but i do want this one to work properly with all functions in order. i will prob use pvc pipe for that tube replacement.

It was the *hygienic* rinse that sold my parents on Sears.

*WOW*
Nice machine!

Grew up with a slightly more TOL version that machine, but built-in. More lights and chrome-plated cycle-selector buttons.

Lasted about 14 years until the tub started rusting.

With porcelain tubs it was important to rid dishes of vinegar and lemon (and other acids) before loading.

Pete, I'm sure you will have her running as good as new. I've never seen a dishwasher like that until I joined AW. This would be a great machine to have a window in the door to watch the rack turn.

Best of luck on the restore.

Jim

Nice to see. My aunt used Rinse&Dry on her LK because she insed everything before loading lol. I think we used it a couple of times to wash dusty things. Someone pushed all the tines in the top rack to toward the center, I can't imagine why. But that really messes up the loading pattern up there with them tilted so much. They should be standing up straight.

thanks to all

for your comments and suggestions.

actually i did not have to use the dremel. i sprayed the drain impeller with pb blaster last nite and today it slid right off with a gentle prying of a screwdriver.

seals looked good but i have a new one coming and the old drain impeller is made of pop metal so i will install new plastic seal kit when i get it.

motor is great! runs perfectly! quiet, like new! i lucked out on that! a new one is 150 bucks. drain pump housing is in perfect shape also, so once i get the sump painted and a new seal kit and gasket in place it will be like new again!

will take pics and post a follow up thread in a week or so after i get more work done on it.

and yes, i would love a door window but i haven't the nerve to cut into it! but watching that roto rack would be a blast!

thanks for the tip on the tines, hadn't noticed that.

and dremels are a godsend, mine is 25 years old and still works great!

and yes, i am always planning in my mind what i will be doing next on some dishwasher of mine. keeps me out of trouble!
