Second Try - DASHed again!

I tried the vintage DASH in the GE Combo again, using 1/2 the recommended amount and still had the same trouble. In all fairness to DASH, I have extremely soft water and the GE Combo isn't exactly ideal for rinsing tests as there is no spin between the wash and rinses. We'll start where we left off, with the GE combo, a load of towels in hot water with 1/4 cup DASH:

The Wash - looks good, seems to be quite a few suds, but not heavy foam...

First rinse in the GE combo - remember, there is no spin, just a warm water flush after draining wash water.

Here is the tumbling in the first rinse, it doesn't look too bad, but this is certainly not "drinkable" rinse water. By the final rinse, most of the suds were gone, but still not perfectly clear.

Here is the recommended amount of DASH in the 55 Kelvinator washer. Nice layer of suds, but again, not heavy foam as with other dets.

Here is the overflow portion of the Kelvi's rinse cycle. We've had some agitation and will have a little more after the LONG overflow rinse. The water was mostly clear by the end of the rinse cycle.

Here is the '49 Westinghouse Laundromat during wash. I used 1/4 cup in this machine, just like the GE. I have mechanically softened water (0-1 grains) so can use a little less than the package directs.

This is the first rinse in the Westy. There is a flush/spray-tumble after the wash and then a spin before rinsing begins. Not too bad. I'm convinced that this 70's formula must be quite different than the earlier versions of DASH. This one has a phosphate content of 8.7% for those interested although as Jon explained, the early versions had phosphates as well and that doesn't necessarily mean more suds.

Greg, do you think the 70's DASH is more sudsy than the 60's??

When you were in rinse in the GE combo did you do the finger test??
John showed me that the GE combo can have a sudsy rinse even with no detergent used because the washing action is so strong that soft water can actually foam up. But with the finger test the water will be squeeky.

I wouldn't drink that rinse water for all the tea in my cupboard!!!

Do the detergents do a good job rinsing in the GE?
I just love that machine!
You know, that Maytag seemed to not suds too much. Am I wrong? Or was I just drunk?
I remember that one day the Maytag actually seemed to go into a "suds" routine. It seemed to behave like the GE combo, without the spins in between. Just flushed the "spins" out with water.
I love that Maytag combo of yours also.

Have you used Dash or other vintage brands in it?
