Seeking You Crate Advice

This one goes out to any members who have used You Crate or another form of shipping for large appliances.

I'll soon be ready to ship my mom's '49 Westy stove to another AW member and am looking for any pointers that will help it arrive safely. Like, do I need to remove burner elements or oven racks or is it better to leave them in place? I presume I'm responsible for securing the stove in the crate. Does You Crate provide materials to help with that? Is there a shipping method other than You Crate that members here prefer to use?

I would remove anything loose enough that could cause damage, wrap it up and place it in the oven or drawer. Secure the burners with tape, oven drawers and storage drawer(s) so they won't fall open in transit and you should be good to go.

I would plan on having some rope or tie-down straps available when you're loading the crate. There are hooks/loops on the floor of the crate to tie things onto so they won't bang around as the crate (essentially a pallet) is being transferred from carrier to carrier, docks, etc.

Definitely tape down the burners and check to make sure that no wires rub against anything sharp. Had a really nasty surprise when I connected my vintage Kelvinator range for the first time - a wire had gotten shredded and I had a major explosion!

Thanks guys. I checked out the You Crate site and they advise to tape the burners and remove oven racks and broiler pans. I can understand the need to secure the broiler pan but am thinking the racks can stay put and I can pack the broiler pan in one of the storage drawers and then tape all doors and drawers shut. I think I can also tape the deep well cooker in place, as in its well would be the safest place for it during shipping.

So basically I tie the stove down to the hooks/loops on the crate and get it well secured and then send it off? Sounds easy enough.
