Sell/Trade my '75 1-18

I'm cleaning out the garage for winter.

Since June I've had a 1-18 that Goatfarmer picked up for parts. It's cabinite was rusty at the bottom, enough so that the right side wasn't connected to the base anymore. Kenny suggested I take it for parts since no one wanted it.

What I found this summer was that it needed clutch work, lube had contaminated the clutch shoes so it wouldn't transmit torque. I fixed that, it agitates, fills, cycles on gentle or regular speed. The water bellows was good

Remaining issue:
I got a 9956936 Tub Seal Kit. (Thread Number: 35710,Post# 534680, Reply# 8)
That is here on my desk but still needs to be installed.

minor issues
lower cabinate rust fix (pop rivet strip on btm edbge)
cabinate drain hose exit fitting, need to fix with elbow tube
recirculaton filter if desired
reassemble

slightly off-topic

I am hoping fitcoils and I can work something out, but need some advice too. I am looking to round out my 70's washers collection. I have a Center dial Maytag 608, a 77 GE Filter flo, and a 1960 Whirlpool (much older but same overall engineering with the neutral drain and wig-wag transmission.) So if I get this 1-18, that's 4 different washers representing 6 main brands( Kenmore WP being sisters, GE owning Hotpoint.)

 

What other automatics were still available in the US in the 70's? I believe Norge was over, as were Bendix/Philco, Easy. Is Westinghouse the next best selling brand from the 70's, after Kenmore/Whirpool, GE/Hotpoint, Maytag, and Frigidaire? I only have so much basement space and so much budget, and I'm looking to have one representative machine of each of the best sellers of the era.

You'll really want a Norge. They were around and popular and loads of fun. The first new automatic I ever bought was a Norge, and that was in the early 80's.

i am also interested. i have a 1-18 already that i rebuilt 2 years ago and it works great! but i would like one more, not concerned about rust etc. i have extra clutch pads i bought 3 years ago for my rollermatics and they are the same as the 1-18 uses.

in cincinnati, could pick up and pay anytime!

GET THE NORGE

Mark I am with Michael on this the Norge is much more fun than the Westinghouse TL washer. But the other one to consider is a WH 3 belt FL washer from the 1970s- 1988. The Norge TL and the WH TL washers are both a pain in the neck to do major repairs on. Try to get ones that don't need major repairs and then don't use them much.

I'll gladly add a Norge and 3belt FL Westinghouse to my list, I was at lest ten years off in thinking they weren't available in the 70's.  But for right now, the 1-18 tops my list of wants, Mom had one in 73 that we sold with the house in 79, nostalgia working here. And it was green, like fitcoils' one. I'm keeping fingers crossed here.

Norge, WCI,(Gibson, Kelvinator, Frigidaire,Westinghouse) the original Westinghouse, were definately around in the 70's.

Mark.......your funny!....space issue?.....we all have space issues, thats why I have 50 machines......somebody shoot me!, if my partner doesn't beat you to it!...lol

I don't see you having a Speed Queen in your collection anywhere.....tap, tap, tap!!!....and maybe a portable or two, you could hide this in that wasted space you call a bathroom or closet....or a TwinTub.....

While were at it....lets convert somethings in your kitchen, like a 40 inch or Flair stove...a single door fridge....a top load dishwasher.....sunbeam mixmaster, and a chrome toaster next to the electric frypan.......see all this open space for vintage machines you have now.......

hey just think....we could suspend a portable dryer from the rafters in your basement......also, at least with a Westinghouse FL, they can stack....

but here's a disappointment

1982 Hotpoint dishwasher. Runs well, was green and protable when I bought the house. I repainted it, made it a new counter and shelves, but it's not a real gem.

 

I'm just joking you, Martin---but the kitchen is pretty cool. I worked from top down, I think now the new floor will wait until after Thanksgiving. My family thinks I'm a slob, it doesn't bother them. My boyfriend knows I'm a slob, it does bother him

Martin---for Speed queen, I do have 2 wringer washers, the late 40's one works and has a pump (stolen from a mid-60-s one with bad motor, bad rollers, etc.) And I have an Easy Spindrier and a Hoover 0519 twinnie, I'm sort of set on the pre-automatic era. I need to get me that 1-18, then a Norge and a 3 belt Westinghouse frontloader. Then, I'll be out of space for sure.

 

You are the GE FF expert. Am I gonna find this 1-18 knocks it out of the balpark?
