Noticed that when using the vintage Miele, laundry emerges with less deteergent scent. Even Wisk tabs and Tide with Bleach (origianal scent), wash comes out smelling pretty "fresh" but not reaking of perfume. Can only attribute this to the fact my washer uses quite allot of water for the 5 rinses (including one deep rinse),which helps remove detergent residue including perfumes.

Maybe people complaining of allergies to detergents are really allergic to the residue left behind by poor rinsing?

Of course you are right, in most cases, especially dermatologic reactions. For some, the dust from the powders can bring on asthmaic symptoms and for others, the perfume can trigger the same reaction while adding it to the machine or during the wash in a top loader. I have seen the same thing happen when someone who bathed in perfume got too close to a friend with those allergies.
