Servis Mk2 arrived but injured, I need help

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I've never done a gearbox on these so I don't know what gaskets or oil seals they have. I would just take it apart and see what's leaking but if you are less confident on mechanics you would be better to wait for a reply from someone more experienced on Servis TTs. I owned one in the early '80s but only had simple faults like stretched belts.
Have you looked inside to see what remains of the timer? If you are lucky it might still be relatively intact but detached from the panel.

Thanks Phil

I was told via PVT message that some oil after these years is normal , so I will just wait to see if everything works and leaks again ...I've cleaned now and seems nothing leaks....
The Timer is still attached on the panel, it just miss the spline, nothing is bent or detached inside there....just spline was snapped out.

After a day.......

Does not leak now seems, all is clean.... I will have to wait to run the wash motor to determine if oils during gears movement gets out....
It looks it was a very small leak over the time, base was skigtly oiled  but motor which is just under it is not oiled or greased so much nor have strips or marks of oil dropping...so I guess I should not worry and it may be normal that some oil spilled in the past from the vents and maybe some now during shipping, infact I could notice now just a drop  of fresh oil on the floor  but  that you can even  see in a pic I posted yesterday ,  I think  let it drop by touching it yesterday....
While cleaning I could see that  there're two small "pipes" on the gear box cover, are those the vents?  If not what are them for? Marks of old oil  were also found on the "rear" part of gearbox transmission assembly under the tub that I could not clean.....

I cannot seen any seal coming out in the joint of gearbox/transmission assembly but I'm sure it should be one....
Are the vents located even in the rear part of transmission?
All this assembly  looks is covered with  old  spilling oil marks here and there...

Thanks

Hi Freddy, it looks like every other Servis MK2 I`ve seen, just a normal build up of oil, from the front of the machine the vent on the gearbox is visible at the back. Still checking for controls, will visit storage this week to see what can find!

I`ll check with Matt tonight about bypassing the timer, need to make sure its the right info..

Thank you alot again Mike!

That would be great to have info about how to bypass the timer correctly so that I can see if motor runs as it should...
I'm already starting topping up cracks and scratches meanwhile ......
I love this machine each day more!

Thank you for all the great help!

Ok Austin is sending his broken timer so I should be able to remove it's spline and replace it into my timer...

Thank you again Austin!

Meanwhile I'm starting  restoring it.... tomorrow will start topping up  the grey lid arms....wish I can have the knobs replaced someday.
It's a beauty!
Thanks again to all!

Hi Freddy,
Sorry for the delay, been dealing with an assignment at work, exman's who needs them !! I will get to the garage this week, I know i have at least one knob, not sure about the inset that goes in the knob, have you got that..the little symbols ?
Regards
Keith

Hi Keith! No problem take your time, no rush for them thank you! Just go when you're more convenient to...
I just have the heater spinner symbols and the pump symbols, I miss the timer numbers that got shredded.
I'd need 2 knobs but even one will be a start! Thank you!
If I can't manage to find the timer symbols what I would ask is if a member would be willing to take the bother to take off his one and copy or scan it and send it to me via email (if printing will get the same size), then if so  I will print it and laminate it with plasic and put back in place....
Let's hope...
Thank you again Keith!

Have a nice evening.
Freddy.

Thank you Mike!

I just need 2 knobs so if Keith will find and send just one I will  accept this one for you also, I don't mind of  small cracks,  it will be anyway better than now.... LOL
I have the pump insert so you could take it off if you want to save it,  I  just miss the timer insert.
Any chanche someone could take the bother to take off his own one scan it and send the scan to me?
I think it's the only way unless the knob that Keith has is the timer one....
Thank you again Mike for the kind offer!
Freddy

Hi All!
Austin, the timer and hose connector were in my post box today, I already removed mine and half disassembled the timer you sent, it looks slightly different as mine looks like had kinda ring where the spline is, while yours have a screw which is built in the timer body, not sure what was that for, maybe for a different model .
Does not look simple to replace the spline so I will bring everything at work today as we've an acquinatance of mine who is an electrician so i will ask him to help me.
Thank you! Austin Expect a small gift in return for them! Hope you can enjoy an italian detergent!
I hope someone could send me the knobs....
Looking forward to operate the machine within tomorrow!
Thank you again!

Hi all, unfortunately I got a bad (for me) news about the timer, I had it looked from my father (the electrician couldn't help much) since it is more a clock than an electric thing, him being a jeweler and understanding more about clocks told me the bad news.
The timer is a mechanical not an electromechanical one as I previously tought, nothing but a spring operated clock, we looked it togheter and he said as I could notice myself also after having the mechanism completely removed that the spline cannot be changed at least not so easily, this unless after having disassembled all the clock movement which is an hard task for both me and him ( he is used to other kind of watches) he also said he is not sure if the spline can be changed, at least that would mean disassemble piece by piece the unit.....
So all I can do with the timers is to bring them to a watchmaker (that today was closed) hopefully that he can do something and also and no less important will not ask a fortune ti fix it....
I do not know if will be more convenient and so cheaper to have Austin's timer fixed or mine having the spline replaced and all reassemled then, the sure thing is that it all is a thing I can't do myself, and I'm so hopeful will not have to spend a fortune...
Nothing is loss anyway, is just good to have had that timer from you Austin, at least is a better starting point as without the spline I could not go anywhere. Thank you again!
Disassembling it I also learned how to bypass the contacts and that is just a good thing! I will try to operate the motor later!
I will also post some pics od the timer disassembled so that maybe this thread will be a useful one if anyone in the future will have a similar issue, hopeful it will not happend to anyone!
Thank you again for the help!
Freddy

Back to starting point......

Hi all again.
Sadly the watchmaker could not help, he said he was not sure to manage what I was asking him as long as the option of fixing the timer that Austin sent, he has been very honest he said that it would have costed him alot of time he didn't have and so he didn't feel to ask me money in case of failing and it was a very probable thing to happend......
So back to starting point :(
But.
Speaking with that electrician today he said there could be the possibility to get an electromechanical timer that would do the work it does, shape might be very different and also not sure if the spline would be the same or would fit but now like now that would be the only thing I could try.....
Hope is still strong.....wish not another letdown waiting for me....
I'm so frustrated....
I will post some pics I took with my phone of the timer.....
Thank you all again!
