Servis MK72 Washing Machines - 40yrs Old Today!!!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Gary.

I too have thought that Servis employed some rather suggestive imagery in their brochures - definitely along the lines of 'Whilst the husbands away, wifey will play!'.

Another of their suggestive classics has to be this one from 1965. The sentence underneath tops it off perfectly and just what has he seen with thiose staring eyes, that has resulted in that grin :-)

Back to serious stuff! lol

Happy birtday to the Mk72 and Mk75 from me.

My Aunty Madge and Uncle Arnold had one of these from new in 1972 and lasted through to circa 1986, being replaced by a grey fascia'd Servis 6030 piano key Quartz.

Other relatives had the follow on Compacts, in the form of the Mk200 Supa-Dry and Mk300 Automatic.

I remember when the advert appeared for Mike's Mk72 - to say I gave him a nudge (probably one of many people who did the same) about it was an understatement. Was over the moon when I heard that it was safe and was probably the machine I was looking most forward to seeing, on my first ever Wash-in.

Here are a few photos of the cute little Mk72, from that day (October 8th 2007)....

Nearly two years later, in August 2009

A timeline of Servis machines - early 70s, late 70s and early 80s

The Servis Compacts really were superb little big machines!

Servis

Hi Paul , yes they are solid machines, a heavy base and vitreous enamel inner & outer tubs, did the job though for many years...no fussing with the spin either!!

Gary...yes, Darlo women, somehow it doesnt look like houses near the factory!!! I wonder what people did with the packet of OMO (Old Man Out or On My Own) in the kitchen window when they got an automatic?? or I wonder if the husband would click...LOl

Servis!

Mike, these are beautiful machines, I wish we had these on our side of the pond. I've been thouroughly enjoying my little Canadian Servis twinnie and if these are anything like that in build quality then they are tanks.

Happy Anniversary. My Simplicity/Servis will be 40 in August, hard to imagine and it's still in great shape.

Mike, I have a bearing kit for the MK72 if you want it. See my other post "Spares in UK".

Mobile phone call

I believe it was 40 years ago that it was the first mobile phone call too? Perhaps it went " hello darling I've just bought you a servis washer ," I was 2 months old and it was a few months before my mam bought her first auto washer ( matchbox hoover ) and was still using a rolls rapids twin tub, 10 years before her first dryer and 20 before her first dishwasher! Imagine having all 3 in 1973 ! In England this would have been quite well to do !
