Has anyone here ever heard of Emdeko sewing machines? My mother had one, which I'm going to give to a friend. It's maybe '70s or early '80s, with zig-zags and bells and whistles, but I can't find out anything about the brand.

The cover of the instruction manual: "EMDEKO. The woman's choice. Sew beautiful. Sew wonderful. Sew simple."

Nope, I have no idea where it was made, just that Emdeko took "great pride and gratification in the comments made by thousands of users. Some of the comments stated regarding EMDEKO are, 'So simple to use'. 'So quiet and smooth'. 'So completely trouble free'. 'Everything I want in a sewing machine'. 'It is a pleasure to use,' etc."

It may even be a late '60s model. It's hard to tell from the styling, which is pretty plain.

Sorry, can't post a pic (no digital camera/scanner). Googling was the first thing I tried; all I could find was a few vague mentions that the machines existed, i.e. "Someone gave me an old Emdeko sewing machine, how do I thread it?" I did try eBay, and while no one is selling the sewing machines at the moment, it seems Super-8 cameras and projectors were other "EMDEKO Products of Distinction."

If there is a sewing machine shop

not too far from you, you might take it there, and see if they have any suggestions. It might be a rebadged Morse/Janome/New Home.

There are a few sewing machine shops within 25 miles of me.

Good luck,

Sounds interesting...

I would be interested in finding out more too.

When I think Emdeno, I usually think of Filtex tank vacuums.

My mother had one of these machines. I believe she got it as a "free gift" when she bought a set of encyclopedias. If I remember correctly, it was a rather basic machine, zig-zag with the ability to raise, drop, or put the feed dogs in a middle position. It sewed very well, very smooth and she used it for a long time. Who made it, though, I have no idea.
