Went to Home Depot today, and took a look the new Whirltags. I like that they are center dials, which of course was reminiscent of former Maytag design. Funny thing is, since it has smaller dials for load size, water temp, etc., on both sides of the dial, it reminds me of the center dial Kenmores of the 1970-80s.

I used to dream about Maytag washers having a Whirlpool body when I was younger. The console was the 70s style with center dial, and the body of the machine was a BD Whirlpool.

I still wish that had come true.

They cannot possibly get old Maytag customers back because there's nothing Maytag about these washers.

They could have done so much with the Norge/Maytags.

Those machines had GREAT potential.

With Whirlpool's reliablity combined with the Norge/Maytag style and dependablity, instant HIT.

I hate the new design. The lid hits the timer dial and turns the washer off.The new dryers are 29"wide.most customers who aren't devout Whirlpool/Kenmore owners don't have the space for that width.I specify the dryer size but not every salesperson here does and we get many returns because the dryer is too wide.

LOL

Then they really did capture at least that much of the essence of the old center-dial Maytags ;-)

My sister has a mid 90's Maytag washer with the dial on the right hand side and when the lid is open it rests on the dial. The dial actually is a form of support for the lid as the dial has a soft grip. So WP actully copied it pretty well I guess.

I just was at Sears and looked at the Whirltags. Some had stainless steel tubs. The only thing that I did not like is the tub seems to be of smaller capacity than the
Norgetags. The center dial fascinates me and I sure would love to try out a load in a Whirltag.
They do seem more solid than the Amanatags.

I remember a Frigidaire sales video from the mid 70's that compared Whirlpool, Westinghouse, Maytag, and Frigidaire washers. The Maytag lid that pushed in the timer knob, and shut the washer off was pointed out by Frigidaire in a very negative light.

Whirltag Stainless tubs

I was cruising the local Sears and saw a stainless tub Maytag. I was really turned off by the machine. it looks very nice on the outside, but that stainless tub looked like crap. the crimps were shoddy, the holes looked punched inconsistantly. Some places looked like they would snag. NOT GOOD. The finish was dismal too. And yes, it does look a little small to me. Whatever happend to the nice smooth stainless steel of Neptunes???
