That is a February 1964 Model A700S. Here's a photo of it in the garage before I brought it to the basement and then here's a link to the video Robert shot while he and Don were visiting in June.

Does the bleach dispenser on these model release any of the wash water into the rinse? also, how good is the system at keeping the suds water (in the suds hose) from running back into the machine? uses a solenoid somewhere near the pump to divert the flow, no?
maybe that hollow agitator bottom on this machine is whipping air into the water?

Brett ... the bleach dispenser truly empties all the wash water and rinse water. I've operated this machine with the front panel off to see if that "really" happens and it does.
It leaves about a tablespoon of water in the bottom of the dispenser, underneath where the hose recirculates the water back into the tub.
There is a diverter that opens and closes the suds return valve so the suds are "locked out" from returning to the tub until you set the dial to "Suds Return" which reopens the valve.
When the machine reaches the first spray rinse during the initial spin, you hear the "clunk" which closes the valve to the suds return drain hose and opens the valve to the regular drain hose and the regular drain hose will stay open until you re-set the dial to Suds Return for the next load.
What's interesting is that on the old (same era) Highlander models, the Suds Save switch on the control panel actually moves into the "Drain" position when it reaches the first spray rinse; or at least that's what I've read in the repair manual ... I've never seen that work, however.

Mexican Detergent Update for Eugene
Eugene to my shock and surprise when I stopped at the Cub Foods at the intersection of Lake and Hiawatha this weekend (the one near Target at the Lake Street LRT station) I just happened to stroll down the detergent aisle (imagine that). I couldn't believe it but amoung all the American detergents they have 11lb bags of Foca, 11lbs they were huge! They also had Mexican Arial, Roma and Viva.

You don't say! We used to shop at a Rainbow Foods right by that Target store, but that got to be a pain during construction, so we switched to a Super Valu on south Cedar cuz' the Cub was kinda skanky inside. We're waiting for that new Target Superstore along south Hwy.77/Cedar to open. That place is enormous.
I'm going to be in the cities for a meeting on Wednesday. The meeting's in St. Paul, on operating tax levy referendums---which should be a real snore-fest--- but I'm staying with friends in south Mpls. not far from said Cub; I'll have to check it out. In fact, when I go through Mankato I'll make a quick stop at the Cub there to see if they're carrying them now, too.

Thanks so much for posting that pic of the 1964 Model A700S Maytag and the link to the video clip. She's beautiful. And, thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I think this may actually be the same model of washer that my grandmother had. I thought it may have been a 506 or 706. And, I realize that I'm demonstrating my ignorance of Maytag history here. I know the Maytag she had was a center dial Maytag and she had the same washer as far back as I can remember (let's not get into how old I am.. .eh hem...). So, it fits the timeframe. I also recall that it had buttons, which I think may have been grey, as well as the red and blue buttons on the far left. I would love to find one someday. Were these fairly common machines? Yours appears to be in MINT condition--absolutely pristine.
