This is an identical piece to the Speed Queen Supertwin. I learned later in my life from Chestermikeuk that these were designed by Servis in England and many of the parts shipped to the new world to be assembled here.
I had one of these Speed Queens when I was in high school. A twin tub is always a lot of splashy fun!
Now that needs to be saved - anyone??, thank you Laundress for posting, Hi David, great to see you back and yes these washers where made in Dudley, West Midlands - Middle of England, UK, there they have a really strong local dialect and machines are called "Weshers"...and still are!!
This model was based on our model Supertwin 70, first produced 1970 so its a great 42 years old, ours never had the two speed motor and the drop on filter flow tray, spec is 6lbs washloads in each tub, 2,800rpm spin, 12min wash timer, 3kw heater and two stage agi - you can snap on a mini agi over the main one for a more vigerous wash, or leave it off for a more delicate wash...looking forward to hearing from whoever gets it!!
It's 7 hours away and I am very willing to pursue this. As some may remember I has a failed 12-hour trip each way to get one of these that was rusted to death. Here's for shot #2!
Hello Keith ... to answer your question, the key is to fill the machine up with water to the proper water line, and then the agitation causes the water to slosh over the top of the filter. I've attached the link to a short video of mine showing it in action. Amazingly, being such a simple concept without a recirculating pump, it does work quite effectively. But I think the Hotpoint lint filter system with the recirculating pump would do a superior job.
Must admit was holding out as one spied the listing earlier this week. However during the imposed "blackout" by our webmaster the other day was made to see sense. Really do not have the space and quite frankly one twin tub (the Hoover) is enough as it was pointed out one rarely uses that as it tis.
If one didn't have the Whirlpool portable and spin dryer/extractor probably would have made a run for it, but alas one does so will not.
What one does not want is the usual back and forth and the thing ends up not being had by anyone in the group. Someone needs to get this and at the reasonable price seller has it listed. Please let this thing not turn into another case where an item ends up suddenly having a *new* selling price of several thousand! *LOL*
Hespeler, Galt and Preston. It is all called the city of Cambridge now. Cambridge is about an hour drive from here. Not sure if the factory still stands? I want to check out this display in Kitchener. I doubt if there will be a twin tub, but you never know?
When I was little, lots of Simplicity/Speed Queed twin tubs were around.
