Hi guys, I just got an old Simpson tl washer on eBay here in Sydney, model 165. For it's age it is in great cosmetic condition. However, the drive belt from the motor to the pulley that drives the agitator and the spin tub is lose. Therefore agitation is very slow and weak and no spin as the belt is too lose. I just brought a new belt, $29, so not cheap and it is exactly the same size. So I guess the original belt is ok. I am guessing there is some sort of tension adjustment on the washer. I can't even work out how to get the front of the washer off to have a poke around inside.

Any one got any ideas how I can get inside and check it out and hopefully tigten the belt drive? I have copied the eBay URL of the washer.

Looking forward to getting some advice. I would love to get this old lady working.

Cheers guys.

The motor is probably off it's pivot point

Hi Simon

Can i ask if you transported this machine on it's side?

If so, these Simpson's have a 'pivoting' motor and it's probable the motor has come off it's pivot points/mountings. This can happen if transported on its side or knocked about for any reason.

You should be able to just pull the panel off at the bottom. Check to see if the motor has come off it's pivot point....these should be white curved pieces of plastic. If so, just lift the motor back onto the points. Check also if the tension spring is still there.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Leon
