Well fellow members it has been hard to come to post this but I have noticed in other threads about health that some members may be experenceing the same thing that I have.I started the thread about ADD in adults and how I was feeling like crap and I could not get over it and I thought that it might be Thryoid related and it still may be an issue for me.But it was more I found out in a horrable July 3rd and 4th event.I had a strangulated Umbical Hernia and was in great pain I went to the emergency room on the 3rd of july had emergency surgery but the kicker was in the recovery room I did not wake up they had to reincubate me and I woke up in ICU but it was because of sleep apnea.I did not think that it was that important but I was so wrong I was going to get the test but an emergency took care of that so if you think that you have any of the signs of this then do not delay treament this is deadly.I would hate to lose any one that I see posting on this site because of this.Take Care Carl P.S. I feel better than ever I am out of the HOSP and recouping at home and ready to get back to work and a better life.

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea as well as severe insomnia. I now uses a CPAP machine, I sleep somewhat better. I am very fortunate my body did not suffer any coronary damage through all the years having this severe sleep apnea.

CPAP User Here.

I have Sleep Apnea. When I had my first sleep study done, I stopped brealthing 66 times in one hour. I was put on a BIPAP machine, with a very high pressure setting. It helped some but not a lot.

I went back to my doctor and he sent me to a ENT specialist. I ended up having surgey; tonsils removed, deviated septum corrected, my uvula was removed, tongue base reduction, and something else that I can't remember. Had another sleep study done, and now I only stop breathing 16 times in an hour. Still use CPAP. There is another surgery I could have that involves cutting into my throat, but my insurance at the time wouldn't cover it. So I just use my CPAP.

My dad has very bad apnea, He has been using a VPAP for 2 years now, saved his life. He has congestive heart failure and it was getting to the point where it was difficult to control. Since the VPAP he has had very few issues. It's a great machine, can act as a respirator if needed due to the full face mask.

sleep apnea

In Texas,I was diagnosed with it but didn't follow through with the sleep study because my schedule did not allow it. For some strange reason,it went away whe I moved here. I now sleep 8 to 10 hours peacefully without any snoring anymore and wake up more relaxed and refreshed.I take powernaps too. I go on my lunch break and sleep for about 20 to 30 minutes.I recomend that to each and everyone of you.It really helps to be able to stay focused on your job.

I had surgery for sleep apnea in Feb. of '99, and haven't had any problems since. When I had my sleep study done, I stopped breathing close to 70x an hour. If you are having sleep problems, get checked out ASAP.

It's A Miracle!

I had my sleep study done in 1998. I stopped breathing an average of 109 times per hour! I would wake up with a "fog" around my peripheral vision that lasted for an hour or two. It had gone on so long I thought it was normal. I would fall asleep driving, often hitting the guard rails. I would sleep through my alarm that rang for three hours! CPAP changed my life, and saved my life. The Doctor who read my sleep study stated " this is a definate morbidity factor in this individual". I love my CPAP and ALWAYS use it no matter what. If you want to talk, please call me 253-572-1263.

Being able to use my bipap so I can get a good sleep is the main reason that we had a whole house back up generator installed. Sometimes our electricity will go out for hours at a time and when that happens during the night, on a week night when I have to work the next day, it makes for a very unpleasant and exhausting day if my bipap is not working.

Yesterday I was cleaning my bedroom and took everything off my night stands and discovered that something had chewed the hell out of the cord to my CPAP machine in multiple places. I don't think it was the cats or dogs, more likely a mouse. I'm surprised it didn't trip a breaker or start a fire. I have several cords just like it from electronic typewriters.

Anyone want to post pictures of their CPAP machines?
