This is one of the four Dormeyer automatic perks in the collection. Again, not one I use every day, so I thought it would be fun to dust it off and see what it could brew.
It looks like other coffeemakers, but with one big difference...
So if you ever wondered what happened if you cross a 60s electric skillet and a coffee perk, this would be the result! It's big departure from most coffee makers with a thermostat inside the perk's base.
Like a temperature probe on an electric pan, the 'Dormostat' is removable and has an adjustable thermostat which in this case is for brew strength.
Sorry for the bad picture here, but I was curious to see if there was some kind of indication saying 'fully immersible'.
Honestly, that's the only reason I could see for having this removable temperature probe assembly. I'm guessing this is an early 60s model, but I know very little else about it. I don't recall seeing ads for a perk like this before either, so I am at a loss to even guess when it might have been built.
Well, I've been perking coffee most of the week in it and I'm happy with it. Hubby found this morning's brew a little on the strong side though. I'll see how 'adjustable' that brew selector is... LOL
alot of electrical drama to suggest Dormeyer-brewed is the best. The design reminds me of the Jetsons buildings, collars of the characters(the percolator top), and the design inscribed on side...a trail left by a
commuting Jetson's auto.
I've never seen a Dormeyer, til visiting aw.org. How do you rate the coffee making, compared to others made in the 60's, like GE?
Phil, I'd rate it high, but still not as good as C30 or C50 Sunbeam Vac-brewed coffee!
As far as perks go, it does a great job so far! The GE is a good standard of comparison... I may just have to do a side-by-side brew test one day when I don't feel the need for sleep... LOL
The Westinghouse...I will try to post a picture, it works fine, of course all coffee is vile to me so im no judge!!LOL, but when company comes I use a Universal Coffeematic!
Dormeyers are not immersible. I have 2 in my small collection, and they both say to not immerse in water. I've never seen a pot with that type of control. Was this made specifically for the Canadian market? I too have found that they make an excellent brew, but run a little hotter than most other brands.
Are immersible, as is the Westinghouse and Mirro with a similar control, I have a much earlier Dormeyer that is near new, but I have never tried it, it has the controls in the base, so its not immersible.
I've seen that when I visited Paul yesterday and I was intrigued. I didn't have time to stay for a coffee as I had other appliances to grab on my way back home (and I arrived quite late!).
