I've been trying to curb my impulse thrift storing but it's a strong addiction. Here's a few of the things I've found over the last few weeks
Couldn't pass up this GE triple whip mixer. It's in really good shape and purrs like a kitten and the bowl light still works. It's missing two of its beaters but I've ordered replacements. The larger bowl was missing as well but I'll find one somewheres.

Lastly the Sunbeam coffeemaster I need the filter part for. A Hankscraft automatic egg poacher and egg cooker, works wonderful, I've been using it along with blender quick Hollandaise sauce.
And a piece of Corningware for Amana Microwaves.

Wonderful finds, but that bowl does not look like it would be the most efficient for the mixer since it has flared sides and the one beater you have has straight sides. Maybe one of the beaters you ordered has a flared shape to fit the bowl.

Thrifting, like eBaying is just too much fun to be easily controlled.

Very nice finds Pete! I couldn't help but to notice the Railroad Magazine. Would you happen to be a "railfan"?

Yes Ken... I worked on the railroad since I was 18 and retired early in 2006, thank goodness. I started as a junior in a yard office at the time, a car-checker, switchman, back in the Y.O, with little seniority. Eventually getting promoted and crawling up the ladder. If I could turn back time I should have stayed on the ground, I can't even put into words how much I hated the last 5 or so years it was that awful.

Pete, I came from a railroad family so I understand...

I'm a railfan, but not a "foamer" like so many can be...I'm sure you know the type!

I'm not a model railroader although I do enjoy going to model rr shows I just don't have the patience firstly and secondly I could never settle in my mind what gauge I liked the best. I like them all. I was leaning to garden gauge #1 when we had the acreage but it never materialized although I could do it here in this place if I had the lacking patience. Mostly I just enjoy watching the real thing whenever/wherever I see train tracks or a yard or documentaries on tv. And I'd rather travel by train than air anyday, the trip is part of vacation. I think the best part of my old job was doing the odd tours now and then for clubs or people from other roads in town on business, evan had some of the model train manufactures in for photo's etc for upcoming models. What always made me laugh was when I get a request from a model rr club for a tour, they'd show up and then go near berserk climbing on cars, under cars etc when they were told to stay in a group and off the equipment because the tracks were live, refusing to listen. thank heavens for waivers.
I suppose no worse than the washer collectors would be in the Whirpool factory trying to extricate Bob from the dishwasher converyor belt.. LOL

I'm not a model railroader either, no patience for it, but I do like going to model railroad shows.

I have a good friend that is a conductor on Amtrak and we like to head to track side and just wait for trains and visit with each other. Sometimes I'll take pictures, other time I'll just watch.

It's strange how railfans can be so careless when they are around trains. I've seen some very careless acts and I know you have seen even worse!

There is a discussion on another board that I belong to about the careless things railfans do.

Great video Pete, really enjoyed it!

My brother called me earlier this morning to tell me about a derailment on the BNSF mainline between Seattle and Vancouver BC. It happened north about 30 miles north of Seattle. A semi-truck didn't clear the crossing and the train hit it, derailing the two lead locomotives and several cars. Thankfully the engineer and the driver of the truck were not seriously injured.

If you are interested I've attached a link to a report about the accident.

Amazing those crash derailments, seems like there's one everyday somewhere, actually there is.

BTW if you look at the video I posted again, the first train and note the 11th car behind the units, a single grafitti painted container by itself in the well amongst double stacks on either side. That container is a gen-set containing two giant Catepillar generators, one at each end inside. On each of the outside ends of that container there are 8, 240volt plug ins to power up to 16 refrigerated containers on the cars attached to it on either side. There are "extension" cords that are draped and twist tied along the sides and over the tops of the containers to reach each successive car.
