Watch at those '50-'60-'70-'80s soap opera clips, there are lots of detergents ads!
From my link you'll see some Guiding Light's 1979 episodes, at the beginning and/or at the end of each segment there are lots of commercials of P&G products.
Watch also the "Archive" section and select other P&G's shows like "Edge of night", "As the world turns", "Search for tomorrow", "Another World" and others!
Cheers!

I believe that's where they got the nickname "soap operas". Degergents and other cleaning supplies were typically marketed during these programs not only on the television, but also during the days when the shows were on radio. This was to advertise to the housewives that were at home at the time, and tuned into the shows while they did their chores.

...yes this sounds sexist, but it is a historical fact!

soap operas

Not only these shows were sponsored by soap makers, some of them are produced since the beginning by P&G.

Dark Shadows

I wanted to watch Dark Shadows when it first came out but my parents wouldnt let me. I get to watch it some now on Sci-fi but not enough to really get into it.

I just loved all that organ musicLOL

fading out of a scene into a commercial was always a few bars of organ;depending on what had happened, the music was joyful or sinister or in between. Actually I sat or napped as a young kid through so many stories as my grandmother called them, they became indelibly etched in my brain.

Here's my big organ

It's an Electrohome made in Canada, Windsor model from around 1970 with Rhythm master and a built in leslie type revolving speaker..I usually wear my black cape and mask while playing it but they're at the dry cleaners...lol

P. O. T. O.?

My daughter has taken a liking to the dvd and music of the Phantom. Do you do some of that, Pete? I'm impressed you have a home organ and can play. Kewl, for real. Generally don't see very many electronic home organs anymore. We had a 1965 Wurlitzer, but sold it when we moved. It was a pretty cherry finish, but needed some work. I don't play myself.

Yes I do play

I took piano growing up and when I got my first job and apartment after college having a piano to move about was a little much so I bought this. Always loved organ music, the good classical stuff, not the Hammond a go-go Walter Wonderly kinda thing. I also have a Roland synthesizer for the fun stuff.

Dark Shadows

FYI, "Dark Shadows" didn't have the vampire storyline originally, that was written in later inorder to boost appeal, and it worked.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!

This so brings back memories! When I was a young'en, my mom worked at the laundromat and I stayed with my grandma watching soap operas and doing laundry.

It's amazing how much of that I remember.

Hey. Isn't that a WESTINGHOUSE top-loader in the Biz commercial at the end of Guiding light section 2?

9 years old again

It's stuff like this that keeps the child alive in me.

Now all I need is a 1970 Kenmore 800, a box of 70s Tide and vintage Downy April Fresh.

Put on some Bee Gees and off I go.
