The Wilkins Servis 501....TOL with heater

This was the series before the introduction of the Stainless Steel Bowl.

The machine is in great condition overall.....not a bad purchase for $1.00!!!

Oh yes.....it came without a lid, but plenty of spares available

What a find...

Leon these bring back such memories. The Simpson dryer truly reserved for the wealthy. The Frigidaire semi automatic belonged to a neighbor (Pat) who was locked out of the house because the machine on spin danced over the laundry door whilst she was hanging the first load of washing out. The Wilkins Service was purchased by another neighbor (Myra) after she traded the exact Frigidaire semi-automatic in. They mechanicals may have been the same as the US Maytag but she rued the day she bought it. Nothing but trouble. Pope was a mainstay in Australia. Eventually purchased by Simpson. My mothers friend, Betty had this exact model. One load every Saturday, you could put a whole weeks wash in one load. She left it run for hours until she remembered it was going. What a find.....what is the story.....UNUSED? It has to be at least 50 years old. Has to be "whats old is new again week". An unused GE automatic was just discovered by our webmaster in his home town.

 

Thanks for sharing, cannot wait to see the home demonstration of the Frigidaire and perhaps a shot of the mechanicals.

Leon, amazing!!  I love the fact your 1958 Simpson has its matching mate dryer, a nice looking dryer too.  the panel reminds me a little bit of toe POD Hotpoint washer.  Nice to see another Maytag (in the appearance of a Wilkins Service) machine.  The arrangement style of the buttons and knobs is very reminiscent of the 1980s 20 pound Jenn Aire Norgetag washer.  And finally, that Frigidaire may be modern, but the arrangement of the two control dials is very reminiscent of the 1955 Imperial washer over here.  the two small control knobs on either side of the panel and even the little reset button.  congratulations!!

Well,

That's the dilemma, keep it as it is or at least use it for some washing....i'm not sure.

However, i defintely won't use the wringers.....that paper needs to be preserved as it is.

All i know of the history is that i bought it off some farmers who once owned a 2nd hand store and bought it home with them when they closed the store.

Wonderful finds, Leon!  That Frigidaire is so fun, what a great way to get the washing done - economically!  It would be easy to save the suds for another load too, plug the drain hose and spin out the first load and then pump the water back in for washing the second.

 

A Maytag with a heater and a side-opening lid, too bad shipping is so crazy expensive!

 

Is the wringer tub aluminum and painted on the outside?  Unused!  Congrats on all the new additions.
