Well, the weekend just gone saw a number of us gallivanting to different places across the UK, on a quest to collect newly purchased machines.

Lee successfully acquired the Hotpoint 1851/03 (yippeeeeeee), whilst Mathew and Mike headed down to Gary's, for a mass collection, the story of which I am sure will be told soon! hint hint!!! lol.

My planned machine collection has been postponed to this coming Saturday and, with Rob unwell, I took the opportunity to go visit my folks for the weekend.

The visit north coincided with an ebay auction ending, for a machine that Rob had drawn my attention to and I decided we should go for it.

It ended on Saturday afternoon and, with everything falling into place, I was able to arrange to collect and pay for the machine on the Sunday morning.

Sunday morning arrived and saw myself, my sister and her boyfriend (cheers for the use of your paypal-led account Mark!) drive to collect the new purchase. By 12 o' clock, we were all back home.

What can it be?
(Mike and Mathew arent allowed to tell. lol)

hi tub, 1400 W ... I bet it's that smurf aka Aquamatic :

A 1400 W heating element is too weak even for the italian market, Candy washers has ever had 1850-2000 W elements. So i bet it is the Aquamatic [UK version]

The Aquamatic version for the italian market has just a 1100 W element, but usually appliances for north european markets had powered elements (eg Zanussi DW that had 2800 W element vs 2000 W on the italian version)

From now on its name is 'Smurf'...

Hi favorit.

Absolutely correct, for it is a Candy 0125 Aquamatic 1.

Here is Smurf gently lounging in the boot of my car...

Candy - Formerly known as "The Item"

Interesting Colour - only remember the blue black ones, is this one later then?? Cheers, Mike

p.s.
"Whilst Mathew and Mike headed down to Gary's, for a mass collection, the story of which I am sure will be told soon! hint hint!!!"

Oh I Dont Think So..!!! after you would`nt even tell Mathew, never mind me, about "THE ITEM" as we updated you on every pasty bite & pit stop!!!....Sweat It Mister...!!!

The marks around the back panel opening is the remains of the sound insulating (rattle absorbing) foam, which has crumbled away.

Obviously there is some pitting rust too.

Will have to replace with some modern black foam tape...

'we updated you on every pasty bite & pit stop!!!'

You are avin a larff aint ya!

You both had me on tenter hooks all day, so much so that I had to pop pills to calm down.
I was waiting on a phone call - you never rang! I was waiting on e-mails - you never sent one! After two texts - SILENCE prevailed!

I then started rocking in a corner, whereupon my folks rang the doctor and two women in white coats (they were supposed to be MEN! grrrrrr) came and took me away for the night.

Then, to top it off, all the nurses at the hospital were WOMEN too!

lol

I am not going to say about which one it is Mike, cause you are being mean. lol.

Oh go on then...

As I understand it, 'the item' is Candy's first Aquamatic and arrived in the UK in 1976.

Details of it can be found in the September 1976 copy of Which magazine, where it is described as the 'new' Candy Aquamatic.

It ran until 1980ish when it was replaced by the Aquamatic2 - anyone have a piccy of one of these?
The 2 looked like the later Aquamatic3, but was styled in dark blue and had rectangular buttons with semi-circle ends.

Then came the familiar Aquamatic3, that I wanted as a kid. Cute little thing...
