Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Very Cool A mid 60s Speed Queen Pair

That rainbow in the SS dryer drum might be heat-tint from overheating, LOL, no actually those older SQ dryers were not very likley to scorch clothing. The heating element and heater box were far enough from the clothing that these dryers were as unlikely as a WP dryer to cause clothing damage.

These old SQ dryers were built like tanks but were not real fast or great performers however, they tended to put in a lot of hours drying the poorly spun out loads from the typical American automatic washers of their time.

Thank You this is washer PORN. The lady of the house must of wiped the underside of the lid after every cycle. It looks New. I can read the instructions clearly. A push to start SQ... Very nice. Why would it delay the fill 30 seconds after starting? Not that it is bad. Just seems unusual for that vintage machine? I think that first fill line is "fill the tub"as in 13 gallons, just like my 1957, which goes 13-9-6.

Yes Paul -the brisk setting is for use of Arctic Power in temps below 50 degrees ONLY !!

This model is A28A which puts it around 1959-1960. Eddy what is your model number??

Got the agitate shaft working today, ran the entire cycle dry. Its quiet, good bearings so far.

All the key nuts are loose so its all ready for a Jetcone© certified rebuild.

Agitate shaft cleaning and lubing.

Boot checks.

Oil change for the tranny.

General clean up under the skirt.

Adjust the agitator set height.

Fresh lube for the pump.

Special Fabrics cycle

Jon, does the machine have multiple rinses? If so, the special fabrics may have just a short wash followed by a rinse. Just thinking of how the GE Combo's 'delicates' cycle starts at the second of five rinses...

Congrats on getting the agitate shaft freed up! Come visit the 60 GE in Ogden when you are done here... LOL

Congratulations!

Jon that is a really great find! I had a dear neighbor who had this same set. When I was a kid she'd let me watch them run. The only repair she ever needed was a start switch for the dryer motor. Those pics bring back great memories!

Best of luck with them! I'm sure after your meticulous "manicure" of these machines they will once again rule the laundry room! ☺

Thanks for sharing the pics and have fun!

Washer porn award ....

Goes to Jon!
You teased us and led on us on for 4 days. I feel like I need a cigarette and I've never smoked in my life.

My guess is, this was only the fore-play.

I really want to see your special portable truck ramp loader in action.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

jetcone/jon:
what a beautiful set of speed queens!! i can't believe how vibrant the gold & red colors on the control panel are. they definitely look like a royal pair of queens that'll wash, fluff but not sure if either will fold.
hm hm hm.....

the stainless steel drum in the dryer looks like it would give your clothes a nice ironing treatment during the tumbling.

they are beautiful!!

once again CONGRATULATIONS!!!
