I finally got a "new" car...A 2002 Chev Avalanche 2wd with 120k

After hunting all over yonder and beyond for a Mazda5 6 speed or a decent mazda 5 that wasn't a rental, I gave up... Tried to buy a used 2004 Explorer 2wd and the dealer was, well not nice

This is a 2 owner, clean truck from So Cal. Guy works in motorsports, so it was babied... Needs a few minor things but overall tis in a+ shape..

Im happy... Ill get my lil mazda eventually, but for now, i love it!

I've always like the Avalanche...

And for many years when we were hauling a hot air balloon around I really wanted one.  Room for the balloon and the crew.

Really nice hauler...

if one pulls a trailer frequently, but not sure I could handle 13-15 mpg, my neighbor had a 2014 Avalanche and that's all he could get... traded for a new Tacoma, no doubt gas will get crazy high again at some point.
 
Love it so far... Giggled at the $68 in gas i put in it.... It got roughly 340 miles on a little under 3/4 of a tank or right about 15.5 mpg.. I suspect a tune up, and a few odd bits will get her perfect...

Its comfortable and my roommate commented how much more confedent and sure footed i seemed driving this big ass thing vs a little car....

So i may just stay with trucks... its nice being able to see out and be comfortable
 
Trucks

I miss my truck. Having an SUV is nice, but to just go to the HD and throw whatever you need in the back is great. Additionally, snagging machines on CL for fun is nearly impossible without one.

This truck is the perfect thrifting truck.. Its got a tonneu cover built in thats weather proof and the area behind the rear seat folds down so it becoms a true 8 ft bed truck.... You can hose out the back and there are 2 locking side bins you can put ice in for drinks... You can easily remove the tonneu cover and have a full open truck or you can remove the back window and have something into the cab..Or one piece of the tonneu cover and haul home a stove

Its like the swiss army of trucks... I drove around tonight playing Pokemon Go (yes i do that ) and it was so nice having it all open driving through cemetaries and crap

An so far it looks like the gas gauage reads a little off, more to the error of having more than said
 
I have a friend who is an officer and his stoned/drugged neighbor walked into hte officers house and played pokemon and passed out on his couch.. His 6 year old let mom and dad know there was a strager on the sofa at 1 am... Guy didnt get arrested but there older kids goit fussed at for leaving the door unlocked and the drugged guy send on his way
 
On this mornings news:

Two citizens ticketed $130 each for occupying park benches after park hours in St. Clair Shores Mi. Nearby residents complained of noise by them as they were playing that game in the park after 10 p.m.
 
Oh jeezus.. The cops here are adding a few extra officers and encourging the kids to be congrated in the parks at night to keep an eye on them
 
How is the tax revenue base there?

It's still light here. Some municipalities are desperate for extra revenue from tickets. Even this suburb, with a mixed upper, middle, and lower middle class populous. A pending millage is on the next ballot for police and fire depts., but it has a high senior population as well. A school millage just passed in the spring. Officers don't want lay offs. The woman said she is fighting it.
 
Our tax base is growing and steady.... We are actually adding officers and new equipment and so forth

And the cops here give tickets either weay, although we have a few cool cops who dont give us crap and write tickets.. Also the community rallys around the youth
 
It looks very nice out there.

I know property values are also high. The Shores here has a nice park and beach for residents, but no swimming allowed due to e-coli contamination.
It also has a few million dollar or more properties in it's canals with lake access. Like the Grosse Pointes with lower taxes. The only area in the Metro D not severely hurt be the great recession.
 
My mom grew upin Gross Pointe.. I haven't been back to the Big D in several years, but I do have 2 nice condos one in Stearling Heights I bought in 2009 for 55,000 im hanging on too for rental (it gets $700 a month for a 3 bedroom/2 bath with basment duplex thats 1500 square feet... Near the Lexus dealer in Utica) and the other near the Volvo dealer in Troy.... Its another 3.2 2 story duplex that was almost new when i bought it for 65,000.00

I am lucky here.. Prices for homes are high, but i paid $156,000 for my semidetached house in the burbs.. Worth about 245,000 now.... My taxes are 2500 a year and i dont have a water bill so that helps...

I would like to move but my three digit mortgage payment is so nice... But one day
