Speed Queen Age

Hi Guys and Girls..
My husband bought me a Speed Queen Wringer washer from an elderly lady who is going into a retirement home, she had the washer in a box in her basement, she said she never used it. I was curious of its age, It looks brand new, never seen water.
The model number is FW2183W and the serial number is 1R110322.. Thanks for your help

Serial: 1R110322 This product could have been manufactured on multiple dates. Personal assistance may be needed to date the product more accurately.According to the serial number this product may have been manufactured 
September of 1977 or 1985.

According to the model number supplied, this product line may have been marketed 1975 to 1979. This reference when used together with the results determined by the serial number may help to define a more precise product manufacturing date.

So because of the last paragraph, I would say the 1977 year is probably the right year. So I would guess
September of 1977

Thank you so much for all the info, I will post lots of pics soon, esp of the maiden wash.. I have to fly up to Maryland and drive it back to Orlando..
So excited, It even has the stainless steel wash tub, original stickers still on the wringer..

A few pics from Ebay where he bought it from.. Do you think I can Replace the agitator with a more vintage one, I have a few Old Kenmore Bakelite ones ? Or would like to find a vintage Speed queen one, the one with the rib looking top

a vintage one from a solid tub apparently will fit, speaking of which, where is MickeyD been hiding?...he added a vintage one to his wringer...

but the vintage one is slightly taller, and will drag the bottom, we have found an easy fix is using something like popcicle sticks, or similar, I used magnetic strips, cut to fit the drive block, slide the agitator on, and secure with the cap....

the magnetic ones had a sticky side that secured it to the block....

Actually saw that listing on CL and later when seller placed on eBay. Maryland is in our neck of the woods so to speak, but have decided if am going to have a conventional washer it will be Maytag.

As your unit is one of the last series made by SQ Lehman's also may prove to be a source of information and or parts. Their "Home Queen" wringer (made in Saudi Arabia or wherever) is loosely based upon the last of American built SQ washers. I say "loosely" because many complain the quality isn't same.

IIRC another member was almost giving away a barely used/NIB SQ wringer of the same vintage. But think he was in upstate NY.

Your LUCKY!!!!! To get a American made Speed Queen wringer they don't make them in the USA. A Saudi Arabia firm bought the tooling from Speed Queen when they discontinued the wringer here in USA. They are NOT made with the same quality like yours. You can still get parts for your washer from Lehmans. I replaced parts on mine and they look like identical parts. I replaced the rolls and mine wrings so much better. Anyway enjoy yours I sure enjoy mine!!!!
